Though the giants have lost their minds, they stay inseparable from their swords that are in sad shape—such that the gold plating had flaked away. |

Trolls (トロル, Tororu) are Enemies in Elden Ring.
Background[]
Trolls were an intelligent race of a lesser giants that inhabited the Lands Between, performing divine smithing rites with braided stone hammers.[1] Much smaller than their gargantuan progenitors, they betrayed the ancient Fire Giants during the War Against the Giants, tipping the scales in favor of Queen Marika's forces.[2][3] Those who fought for the Erdtree received swords gilded in gold, while those who fell were interred in the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave.[4]
When the golden armies of Leyndell threatened the sovereignty of Liurnia of the Lakes, the Carians, heirs of ancient astrologers, invoked an old oath and called the Trolls to arms.[5] As fully-fledged Carian Knights, the enchanted Troll Knights served beside the young Queen Rennala,[6][7] twice repelling the forces of Radagon during the Liurnian Wars.
Many Trolls fought in the Shattering, serving various Demigods. Some joined with ousted Golden Lineage loyalists in the Second Defense of Leyndell,[8] others aided the Redmanes in staving off Malenia's scarlet rot. Dozens perished in the bloody Assault on Volcano Manor, their corpses strung up and hanged by their feet. By the end of the conflict, most Trolls lost their wits, succumbed to madness, or became beasts of burden, pulling Great Coffin carriages across the land.
Characteristics[]
Trolls are broad, muscular humanoids of towering stature. Two great whiskers hang from their faces, which are enwreathed in a grand mane of smaller, root-like growths. A stone slab is embedded within the open chest cavity of each troll, held in place by thick roots. Sometimes, stakes are lodged into these cavities, allowing the trolls to drag carriages along behind them. They can be found throughout the Lands Between, often fighting on behalf of various armies and factions. The earth shakes when they stomp, and their roars produce gales of wind.[2][9] Trolls who wield golden swords typically draw them upon losing half of their HP.
Most of their attacks are slow and heavily telegraphed, making them easy to punish even with larger weapons. Trolls frequently expose themselves due to their sluggish movement and lengthy attack recoveries. Their main counter to close-range pressure is a stomp, which can be chained several times to push players out of their blind spots. They all share a basic unarmed moveset of forward fist slams, broad arm sweeps, quick stomps, and a leaping two-handed spike. Sword-bearing Trolls add slow, heavily delayed slashes and up to three consecutive dashing swings. They also possess a long-range roar that sends out a fast shockwave, and many of their melee attacks create splash damage.
Most Trolls are susceptible to all common status ailments. Applying both Poison and Scarlet Rot simultaneously can drain up to half their HP. Blood Loss is also effective. Their greatest vulnerability is to Sleep—a single St. Trina's Arrow will sedate them, allowing for either a high-damage Critical Hit, or continuous attacks during their extended recovery animation, possibly inflicting additional ailments.

Caravan Troll[]
The Caravan Trolls are anchored to Great Coffins by enormous stakes driven through their torsos. They are often encountered in pairs, dragging their carriages across the Lands Between. They travel in loops around each above-ground region and are typically escorted by a detachment of Foot Soldiers and other warriors.
When attacked, they stand down and kneel; however, they break free of their chains when sufficiently angered.

Notes[]
- Stance: 64
- This enemy is vulnerable to a Critical Attack after its Stance is broken.
- Weak spot: Head (x2 damage)
- A successful hit to the head briefly stuns a Troll, causing it to raise an arm in a futile attempt to block further strikes. During this state, they will often strafe aimlessly, giving time to line up another precise hit.
- Troll Knights wear helmets and do not take increased damage from headshots. Headless Troll Knights cannot take extra damage from headshots.
- Deals Standard damage
- Trolls have large whiskers resembling roots.
- Flamesword Trolls wielding fiery blades have the same reach as those with ordinary swords, even when their attacks generate splash damage.
- Trolls can damage other enemies and even destroy parts of the environment.
- If a Troll collides with a wall or obstacle during its dashing sword combo, it will be momentarily stunned and left open to attack.
- Nearly all attacks—armed or unarmed—can be dodged by sprinting or rolling forward through their legs.
- Dead Trolls are hung upside-down at Stormveil Castle and Mt. Gelmir. Others are interred at the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave.
- Godrick the Grafted has the torso of a Troll and performs the rolling attack.
- Notable trolls include Smithing Master Iji, Bols, Carian Knight, and Great Wyrm Theodorix.[11]
- Certain Trolls throw Hefty Pots with deadly precision.
- Caelid: A Troll on the cliff southeast of the Sellia Gateway throws Hefty Magic Pots. Does not respawn.
- Cerulean Coast: A Troll near the Stone Coffin Fissure entrance throws Hefty Sleep Pots. Drops a Hefty Cracked Pot on death, and does not respawn.
- The pattern on the cloth worn by Frenzied Flame Trolls matches the Queen's Robe worn by Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon.
