Tree Sentinels (ツリーガード, Tsurīgādo, lit. "Tree Guard") are Bosses in Elden Ring and Elden Ring Nightreign.

Background[]

Possessed of great strength and abundant Grace, Queen Marika's mounted Tree Sentinels met little resistance as they charged down her enemies.[1][2] Heavily-equipped and blessed with old Erdtree incantations,[3] very few were permitted to join their nigh unbreakable ranks.[4][5] They were resolute in their commitment toward protecting that which deserved protection, becoming the gold standard to which all defenders of the Erdtree measured themselves.[6] Their gallantry influenced the practices of the Leyndell Knights, who similarly put the shield before the sword.[7]

After the Ancient Dragon Gransax attacked Leyndell, some of the Tree Sentinels adopted characteristics of the Ancient Dragons. These knights became Draconic Tree Sentinels to better protect the Erdtree.[8]

A few Tree Sentinels embarked on Messmer's crusade, later safeguarding the path to the Shaman Village, Queen Marika's former home.[9]

King Morgott distributed special, invisibility-revealing torches to the Tree Sentinels following his rise to power, hoping to prevent a second Night of Black Knives.[10]

Characteristics[]

An imposingly sturdy knight chained to the saddle of a large horse. The Tree Sentinel wears golden filigreed plate with intricate vine and floral motifs, inlaid with crimson and viridian jewels, and a dark ochre cape depicting a sacred tree. Their helm features red false eyeslits and a small, decorative tree with yellow-green growth in place of a plume. The knight carries a massive golden halberd imbued with Holy Holy energy. Their steed is covered head-to-hoof in barding of golden plate over layered black armor. Its ornate chamfron (faceplate) has vented blinkers and a spiral unicorn horn embellishment.

Locations[]

Bosses[]

Limgrave[]

Background[]

A Tree Sentinel patrols a segment of the road connecting the Church of Elleh to Fringefolk Hero's Grave, found past Sites of Grace the First Step. Although it is typically the first boss players encounter beyond the Stranded Graveyard, it is too powerful for low-level characters. It can be circumvented by sneaking through the grass, avoiding the dirt path and the Knight's line of sight.

Altus Plateau[]

Background[]

A duo of Tree Sentinels fought at the top of the steps leading up to the gate to the Capital Outskirts, just before the Sites of Grace Outer Wall Phantom Tree Site of Grace. One wields a shield while the other carries a torch. Although they have separate health bars, both must be defeated to clear the boss and obtain the rewards.

Scaduview[]

Background[]

A duo of Tree Sentinels found in the Hinterlands of Scaduview, guarding the path to the Minor Erdtree incantation.

The shield bearer starts out on to the left, on the path to riding across the nearby bridge, while the torch-wielder is riding down the path from Shaman Village. This means they are quite easy to fight separately.

As with the Altus duo both of these must be defeated to get their runes, but their respective Blessings are dropped the first time each is killed.
