Background[]

A Spiritcaller Snail encountered at the end of Road's End Catacombs in Liurnia of the Lakes. It summons the spirits of Crucible Knights to defend it. It can only summon one at a time, and will alternate between sword and spear varieties. The snail itself is effectively invisible, but can be detected by looking for a glowing patch on the ground. It will teleport to another part of the room after being hit a few times. It can be killed without engaging with the Crucible Knight summons, by pursuing the snail.

Strategy Guide Description[]

Elden Ring Official Strategy Guide Vol 2 - Shards of the Shattering
These bizarre reptile-mollusc hybrids prefer dark habitats such as dungeons and caves, and are found mainly in locations such as Volcano Manor and the Eternal Cities. They move with snail-like lethargy outside of combat, but strike with a snake's agility and are even capable of leaping off the ground to attack. Snake Snails often withdraw into their shells when idle and tend to blend into their surroundings until they become alerted to your presence, but once you know what to look for, they are relatively easy to spot even at a distance. They take increased damage from all sources, particularly Slashing weapons, and are vulnerable to common status aliments, these weaknesses combined with their low health makes them easy targets but for the fact that they almost always appear in large colonies, and what little danger they pose depends entirely upon them surrounding you while your guard is down.

Snake Snail[]

Common Snake Snails use only basic melee attacks and a ranged venom projectile. They aren't particularly aggressive at a distance but become more active up close, so approach them with a reasonable measure of caution and prioritize striking them with jumping attacks or projectiles from outside their reach.

Snake Snail (Crystal)[]

These snails make their nests in caves with large crystal deposits. They're often tucked inside their shells, which can cause them to blend into the surrounding environment and create opportunities for them to ambush you if you rush ahead carelessly. Once they're aware of you they'll use a mid-range crystal breath attack which leaves lingering shards on the ground that deal contact damage when stepped on, and will attempt to bite you if pressured up close. At long range, they're capable of launching crystalline projectiles with linear trajectories, so keep a close eye on them and anticipate their next attack based on their distance from you.

Skeletal Snail[]

This variant uses a somewhat more insidious form of camouflage its "shell" is merely a giant humanoid skull, within which it will remain concealed until you trespass upon its territory. Other than the standard close-range bite attack, these snails can retreat into their shells and perform a continuous rolling attack with directional tracking capability and a fairly long duration.

While Skeletal Snails will primarily use their rolling attack or bites, they can also launch Magic-elemental homing projectiles which move slowly and have strong tracking

Notes[]

  • There is an unused Cobra variant of this enemy found in the game's files.
