Smithing Stones are Bolstering Materials in Elden Ring, of which 9 variants exist.

They can be used by Smithing Master Hewg or War Counselor Iji to incrementally upgrade Weapons in exchange for runes, up to +25, consuming the stones in the process. Every "tier" of Smithing Stone can upgrade an armament up to 3 times before the next tier of Smithing Stone is needed; the first upgrade of a tier requires 2 stones, the second 4, and the third 6. Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones are the sole exception — only being used once to upgrade weapons from +24 to +25.

However, for certain special armaments, the rarer Somber Smithing Stones are needed instead; such armaments can only be upgraded to +10, and only require one somber stone per upgrade.

They can be found scattered through both the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow, sometimes looted from certain enemies when killed, or purchased from some Merchants in usually limited quantity. However, excepting Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones, they can be purchased in unlimited quantity from the Twin Maiden Husks after giving them Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearings, of which 4 are scattered throughout the Lands Between.
