Sleep is a status effect in Elden Ring, incapacitating most lesser enemies for an extended period of time or inflicting heavy stagger towards stronger enemies and players alike as well as draining a chunk of the player's FP, making it into a slightly less dangerous version of Madness. The player's resistance to this status ailment is determined by their Focus stat, which is increased by the Mind stat.
Mechanics[]
Inflicting Sleep on a player will briefly stagger them, even through a roll, and drains FP equal to 30 + 10% of max FP. Inflicting on most generic enemies will briefly stagger them.
Sleep has special interactions with certain enemies: some, like the Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble, Vulgar Militia, and Mad Pumpkin Heads, will fall into a heavier sleep, making them vulnerable to a Critical Attack and potentially sleeping for up to a minute if not damaged. Others, enemies that ride other entities, will get knocked off their mount. This includes almost all enemies on horseback (such as Godrick Knights, Cuckoo Knights, Leyndell Knights, and Kaiden Sellswords) but also the Giant Ant-riding Nox Swordstresses but doesn't include Night's Cavalry (since they are immune to Sleep) or Tree Sentinels (since them and their horse are effectively one entity).
Eternal Sleep[]
A special variant of Sleep introduced with Shadow of the Erdtree, Eternal Sleep has slightly different effects from regular Sleep. The FP drain to players is increased to 50 + 15% of max FP, weaker enemies such as Godrick Soldiers can potentially be slept permanently and never wake up, and bosses vulnerable to Sleep won't wake up the until 5 seconds after they were first attacked and aren't susceptible to Critical Attacks.
