Give a war cry to rally the spirit and increase attack power. While active, strong attacks change to charging attacks.

Acquisition[]

Effect[]

Roar to gain a Weapon Buff that increases the weapon's Physical Attack Power by 7.5% and adds 0.05 to its Strength-scaling for 40 seconds.

When the Weapon Buff is active, regular heavy attacks are turned into overhead slam with 135% Attack Power (145% if two-handed), with a second regular heavy attack being an upward slash with the same Attack Power. For Fists-sized weapons their two-handed regular heavy attacks become two slams with 100% Attack Power each.

If a charged heavy attack instead is performed, it's preceded by a charge that hits with 0 Attack Power twice to stagger and then the attack has is an overhead slam with 175% Attack Power (185% if two-handed), and a second charged heavy attack is preceded by a charge that hits with 0 Attack Power once and the attack is another overhead slam with 178% Attack Power (188% if two-handed). For Fists-sized weapons their two-handed charged heavy attacks become two slams with 125% Attack Power each for the first charged heavy attack and 130% Attack Power for the second one.

Notes[]

  • Best for large, high Attack Power weapons (such as Colossal Swords and Colossal Weapons) that can take advantage the most of the high multipliers.
  • The initial roar costs 20 points of Stamina. The cost for the changed heavy attack depends on the weapon's type, whether or not the attack is charged, and whether or not the weapon is being two-handed or not: 20-40 points for one-handed reguar heavy attacks (24-48 points if two-handed) and 35-55 points for one-handed charged heavy attacks (40-66 points if two-handed).
    • For Fists, Hand-to-Hand Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Claws, and Beast Claws Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 20 points of Stamina (15+15 points if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 35 points of Stamina (20+20 points if two-handed).
    • For Straight Swords, Light Greatswords Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Curved Swords, Katanas, Great Katanas Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Twinblades, Axes, Hammers, and Flails one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 30 points of Stamina (36 points if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 45 points of Stamina (54 points if two-handed).
    • For Greatswords, Curved Greatswords, Spears, Halberds, and Reapers one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 35 points of Stamina (42 points if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 50 points of Stamina (60 points if two-handed).
    • For Great Hammers one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 37 points of Stamina (45 points if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 52 points of Stamina (63 points if two-handed).
    • For Greataxes and Great Spears one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 38 points of Stamina (46 points if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 53 points of Stamina (64 points if two-handed).
    • For Colossal Swords and Colossal Weapons one-handed regular heavy attacks cost 40 points of Stamina on the first attack and 45 points on the second attack (48 points on first and 54 points on second if two-handed) and one-handed charged heavy attacks for 55 points of Stamina (66 points if two-handed).
  • The changed heavy attack is different between slashing weapons, spears, and fist-sized weapons. When the heavy attack is charged the attack will be preceded by a short, staggering charge.
  • For all one-handed weapons the Stance damage multipliers are the same, with the regular heavy attack dealing 200% Stance damage and the charged heavy attack dealing 600% Stance damage. Two-handed fist-sized weapons, however, deal 120% Stance damage per hit (240% in total) with regular heavy attacks, while charged heavy attacks deal 360% Stance damage per hit (720% in total) with the first attack and 480% Stance damage (960% in total) with the second attack.
    • For all weapons that aren't fist-sized, two-handing the weapon increases the Stance damage by 20% for the regular heavy attacks by 20% and by 10% for the charged heavy attacks.
      • Hand-to-Hand Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Claws, and Beast Claws Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree deal 8 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (9.6 Stance damage in total if two-handed) and 24 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (28.8 Stance damage in total with the first one and 38.4 Stance damage in total with the second one if two-handed).
      • Fists deal 10 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (12 Stance damage in total if two-handed) and 30 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (36 Stance damage in total with the first one and 48 Stance damage in total with the second one if two-handed).
      • Straight Swords, Curved Swords, Katanas, Twinblades, Axes, Spears, Halberds, and Reapers deal 10 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (12 Stance damage if two-handed) and 30 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (33 Stance damage if two-handed).
      • Light Greatswords Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Greatswords, Curved Greatswords, Greataxes, and Great Spears deal 11 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (13.2 Stance damage if two-handed) and 33 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (36.3 Stance damage if two-handed).
      • Colossal Swords, Flails, and axe-type Colossal Weapons deal 12 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (14.4 Stance damage if two-handed) and 36 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (39.6 Stance damage if two-handed).
      • Hammers deal 13 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (15.6 Stance damage if two-handed) and 39 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (42.9 Stance damage if two-handed).
      • Great Hammers deal 14 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (16.8 Stance damage if two-handed) and 42 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (46.2 Stance damage if two-handed).
      • Hammer-type Colossal Weapons deal 15 Stance damage with one-handed regular heavy attacks (18 Stance damage if two-handed) and 45 Stance damage with one-handed charged heavy attacks (49.5 Stance damage if two-handed).
  • The charged heavy attacks used when under the effect of War Cry have a higher than usual Status Effects multiplier, as most of them inflict 200% of the Status Effect per hit.
  • The added Strength-scaling is additive and is most beneficial for Heavy Affinity and Fire Affinity weapons, as they already have strong Strength-scaling will most likely be used for builds built around that stat.
    • This effectively adds up 5% extra Attack Power compared to Base Attack Power, though it will be lower due to Weapon Scaling (3.125% extra at 45 Strength and 4.5% extra at 80 Strength).
    • Example: a +25 Fire Affinity Longsword has 0.73 (C) Strength-scaling. After using War Cry that scaling will have improved to 0.78 (C).
  • Though this is a skill, the follow-up heavy attacks are not boosted by the Warrior Jar Shards. Attack Power of both the regular and charged heavy attack follow-up is however increased by 15% by the Roar Medallion and by 10% if a Highland Axe is held in an active hand slot, and the charged heavy attack follow-up has its Attack Power increased by 10% by the Axe Talisman.
  • The changed heavy attacks are rather predictable for parries due to their slow speed, unless the weapon type (such as Flails) is unparriable.

Trivia[]

  • Patch 1.07 Extended effect duration. Reduced the delay between the end of various actions (such as using items or attack animations) and being able to perform the skill. The power of strong attacks during the duration of the effect has been increased when using the following weapons: Straight Sword / Curved Sword / Katana / Axe / Hammer / Flail / Spear / Great Spear / Halberd / Reaper / Fist (one-handed) / Claw (one-handed).
    • The duration of the Weapon Buff was extended from 20 seconds to 40 seconds.
  • Patch 1.05: Fixed a bug in the "War Cry" skill where the effect was applied to a weapon that was not the target of the skill. Fixed a bug where recovery time for some actions of the "Barbaric Roar", "War Cry", and "Troll's Roar" was longer than expected.
