Elden Ring Wiki

Shifting Earth is a gameplay feature in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Overview[]

Shifting Earth events are semi-random Expedition modifiers that drastically alter the landscape of Limveld. Each one replaces part of the map with a sprawling new location filled with enemies, bosses, and valuable treasures. These changes are static and remain consistent across Expeditions.

Shifting Earth events are unlocked by defeating the Nightlords or by advancing select Remembrance quests. Once unlocked, they are cycled by defeating the Nightlords. Events persist for several runs before fading on their own, though they can also be skipped early by resting in the bed at the Roundtable Hold and choosing to pass time. The active event is displayed when launching an Expedition.

The four possible Shifting Earth events spawn the following locations:

List of Shifting Earth Events[]

Shifting Earth Events
Shifting Earth Description
ERN Shifting Earth The Crater
The Crater
The Crater is a massive volcanic pit that appears at the center of Limveld. It erupts with lava and contains an ancient temple built to honor the divine smithing arts, now guarded by the Fire Monks. Reaching the bottom and defeating the Magma Wyrm allows the Nightfarers to upgrade a single Armament to Legendary quality at the Smithing Altar.[1]
ERN Shifting Earth Mountaintop
Mountaintop
The Mountaintop is a freezing region of the Mountaintops of the Giants that appears in the top-left quadrant of Limveld. The glacial First Peak was once home to the Ice Dragons. Blue ice crystals found here grant resistance to Frostbite Frostbite.[2]
  • This event is unlocked by defeating three different Nightlords.
  • It can be accessed early during chapter 6 of the Executor's Remembrance quest.
ERN Shifting Earth Rotted Woods
Rotted Woods
The Rotted Woods appear in the bottom-right quadrant of Limveld. The forest is blighted by scarlet rot, but a tower of fire keeps it at bay. A red flower found within grants a protective blessing of the forest.[3]
  • This event is unlocked by defeating five different Nightlords.
ERN Shifting Earth Noklateo, the Shrouded City
Noklateo, the Shrouded City
Noklateo is an Eternal City that appears in the bottom-left quadrant of Limveld. It was purged, destroyed, and sealed underground in a single night long ago. Only undead Mausoleum Knights and treasure hunters, such as the Fallen Hawks, remain. The city contains an ancient object that allows the duplication of any Armament.[4]
  • This event is unlocked by defeating seven different Nightlords.
  • It can be accessed early during chapter 3 of the Wylder's Remembrace quest.
FH Promo Key05
The Great Hollow
A vast chasm lying deep within Limveld, littered with strange ruins and sacred towers that mark the remnants of an ancient civilization, and filled with crystals that release a cursed, life-draining mist.[5]

Notes[]

  • Discovering the secret of each Shifting Earth event for the first time unlocks an achievement. There is also an achievement for discovering all four secrets.
  • The Smithing Altar at the Crater can be accessed after the nearby Magma Wyrm is defeated.[6]

An ancient temple built to honor the smithing arts that were acts of the divine.

  2. Mountaintop: "The First Peak.
In the wintry cold of the First Peak, only the strongest survive, and a dragon who commands frost has thrived longer than any other.

  3. Rotted Woods: "A forest transformed by the power of an outer god, overrun by scarlet rot and filled with all manner of decay.
But life has found ways to resist. Survivors of the forest built a tower of fire to cleanse rotting miasma, and nurture materials that temporarily stave off rot.
Legend speaks of a secret protective forest blessing hidden inside the tower, alongside the countless heirlooms of would-be treasure seekers who lost their way."
  4. Noklateo, the Shrouded City: "A lost city that was desolated in a single night and sealed underground, but recently resurfaced.
The vast city, showing no signs of life, is brimming with curses and overrun by undead; the sole remains of those who sought the secret treasures said to be hidden in there.
An object from an age long past lies enshrined here— the means to duplicate any weapon, or so it is said."
