Did you mean…?For Elden Ring, seek Runes.

Runes (Runes) act as both a currency and the experience points (XP) in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Overview[]

Runes are a temporary currency that does not persist between Expeditions. The Nightfarers gain runes by defeating enemies and bosses, or by collecting certain Dormant Powers. They are used to level up at Sites of Grace or to trade with Merchants in Limveld.

Lost Runes

Lost Runes

When a Nightfarer dies, they drop their runes and are demoted one Level. The level is not permanently lost, as the cost to advance to that level is added to the dropped runes.

  • If the Nightfarer was killed in combat by a mob enemy, then their runes are transferred to that enemy, indicated by a golden light radiating from their center of mass. The runes are returned to the player when the enemy is slain, regardless of who killed it or the proximity of the owner.
  • If a Nightfarer is killed by the Night's Tide, then their runes are dropped where they took fatal damage. Runes dropped this way are collected in the game world in the same manner as Elden Ring. However, if they died near a mob enemy, then that enemy will hold the runes instead.

All the runes are permanently lost if the Nightfarer dies before reclaiming them.

Notes[]

  • Sacrificial Twigs are secret Talismans that prevent the loss of runes on death, at the cost of the twig. Three of these lie behind a stone door near the central castle, unlocked only with the Cord End.
