Primeval Sorcerer Azur is an NPC in Elden Ring.

Overview[]

Azur is one of the founding glintstone sorcerers[1] and the originator of the Karolos Conspectus[2], considered to be the oldest and most venerable[3] lineage of study at the Academy of Raya Lucaria, dedicated to pursuing the mysteries of comets. Azur was Sorceress Sellen's first teacher at the Academy[1], and she vieweed him as a stern judge of character.[4] He glimpsed into the primeval current, where he saw darkness, leaving him both bewitched and fearful of the abyss.[5]

Along with Primeval Sorcerer Lusat, another founding glintstone sorcerer, Azur was driven from the Academy.[6] He settled on Mt. Gelmir, on the outskirts of a Hermit Village populated by Glintstone Sorcerers and Demi-Humans. His body became overrun by blue-green glintstone and he achieved a near-inorganic state[7], with his glintstone crown replacing his brain and skull.[8]

The Tarnished discovers him on Mt. Gelmir, protected by a group of sorcerers and Demi-Human Queen Maggie. Azur reaches out to the Tarnished and grants them his legendary sorcery, Comet Azur. After revealing Azur's location to Sellen, and subsequently discovering the whereabouts of Lusat, Sellen has the bodies of the two sorcerers moved to the Academy of Raya Lucaria, planning to use them to hone the primeval current.[9]

Notes[]

  • Azur's Glintstone Staff can be found in the Academy of Raya Lucaria, in a room above the Church of the Cuckoo Site of Grace, guarded by a Noble Page. The room also contains an inactive Graven Mass and a portrait of a woman resembling the Witch's Glintstone Crown.
  • The Karolos Glintstone Crown resembles a portrait seen in several places in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. As the Karolos Conspectus began with Azur, it is possible that both the portrait and the headpiece are modelled after his original appearance.
