The primeval current is a forbidden tradition of glintstone sorcery. To those who cleave to its teachings, the act of collecting sorcerers to fashion them into the seeds of stars is but another path of scientific inquiry. |

The Primeval Current, also known as the procession of stars, is an unseen location in Elden Ring. The primeval current of glintstone sorcery is intrinsically tied to the cosmic vitality of the stars,[1] shaping both the land and fate of the Lands Between.[2][3] It is described as a torrent of glintstone flowing from a distant star cluster,[4] often likened to a celestial procession of stars.[5] However, its cosmic mysteries bewitch those who gaze into the current, often driving them to the brink of despair.[4][6]
Background[]
Long ago, the Greater Will triggered a great rupture in the One Great,[7][8] scattering the ancient life of the stars across the cosmos.[1] This celestial event is seen as the primordial causality that led to fractures, births, and souls.[9]
The first star to arrive on the Lands Between carried Metyr, Mother of Fingers, daughter of the Greater Will.[10] Later, a golden star descended, bearing the Elden Beast, which would become the Elden Ring.[11] Later, many more of these shooting stars would become meteors that struck the Lands Between, giving rise to the Alabaster and Onyx Lords and lifting Farum Azula into the sky.[12][13][14][15] During an age when Fire Giants ruled Flame Peak, an ancient astrologer on the Mountaintops of the Giants perceived the primeval current. Soon, the stars' amber rained down upon the Lands Between. This meteorological phenomenon introduced glintstone and glintstone sorcery to the world.[16]
The Black Moon once hung over Nokstella, guiding countless stars. However, it was lost long ago.[17][18] The Nox of Nokron used the Fingerslayer Blade against Metyr,[19][20] a blasphemous act that enraged the Greater Will. In response, the Greater Will sent a malformed star from its lightless abyss through a portal to assault the Eternal Cities.[21][22][23] In a hail of meteorites, Astel leveled the Nameless Eternal City and banished the Eternal Cities deep underground, disconnecting the Nox from the true night sky.[24][25]
The Academy of Raya Lucaria was later founded by two glintstone sorcerers, Azur and Lusat, who sought to uncover the secrets of glintstone and the enigmatic crystalians. Both peered beyond the "wisdom of stone"[26][27] into the primeval current and were irrevocably changed by what they saw.[28][29] Azur was left bewitched and haunted by the abyss,[4] while Lusat was shattered after witnessing the dying light of a star cluster.[6] When the Carians, followers of the Moon and allies of the crystalians,[30] gained control of the academy,[31][32] they suppressed the study of the primeval current.[33] However, Sorceress Sellen defied this ban, obsessively pursuing its secrets. She even transformed fellow sorcerers into Graven Masses—the seeds of stars.[34][35] For her treachery, the Graven Witch was expelled from the academy.[36][37]
Shortly after Miquella's vow,[38] Queen Rennala's son Radahn harnessed Gravity Sorceries in defense of Sellia.[39][40][41] In the ensuing Starscourge Conflict, Radahn stood alone against the stars—and prevailed.[42][43] His victory halted their movement, thereby forestalling the fate of his sister, Ranni.[44][45]
