Poison

Poison is a status effect in Elden Ring, inflicting damage over time to the player and serving as a less dangerous variant of the Scarlet Rot status effect. The player's resistance to this status ailment is determined by their Immunity stat, which is increased by the Vigor stat.

Mechanics[]

Poison accumulates gradually and comes into effect once the threshold is reached. The higher the player's Immunity stat, the longer it will take for Poison to become effective. Immunity can be increased by increasing the Vigor stat. Once effective, the player will receive continual damage over time until the effect wears off.

Types of Poison[]

The damage received from poison can vary greatly depending on the source and the target inflicted. In general, poison is split up into two categories: Normal and Deadly.

Normal poison is generally the most common and is automatically granted to any weapon that has it's affinity changed to Poison with one exception.

Deadly poison is innate to the weapons that already come with it and damages it's targets at a faster rate than normal poison. However, it does not last as long and the total damage received from a single proc of Deadly Poison is ultimately lower than Normal Poison.

Ash of War: Poison Moth Flight has a unique property that allows it to inflict burst-damage through an un-named Blood Loss-like status effect on targets that are already poisoned. Damage received is mostly based on a percentage of the Target's total HP pool. Triggering this effect will instantly cure the target's poison ailment making it most efficient when applied just before their affliction is about to wear off. This is a downside particularly in Online-PvP, as the effect can trigger while the target is in i-frames, allowing them to take no damage from the proc while at the same time be cured of their poison status. However this property can also be taken advantage of, as this allows the player to constantly re-trigger the Kindred of Rot's Exultation buff from continuously poisoning the same target multiple times in quick succession.

There are certain equipment that gives the player buffs when poison has been inflicted in the general vicinity, they do not discriminate between what has been poisoned in order to activate, it can be friend, foe and even oneself and generally lasts for around 20 seconds since the last poison infliction.

Environment[]

Poison swamps can be found in several locations throughout the Lands Between. They generally comprise of bodies of filthy sludge that continuously build up Poison as the player is standing in them. Rolling around in said sludge will also cover the player-character's body with the fluids, which will slowly yet consistently build up poison even if the player is no longer directly standing in the liquid itself or even tries to cure their poison ailment with boluses. While these stains will gradually wear off over time, they can be removed immediately if it's raining, the player rolls around in clean water or uses Soap.

ER Poison Trap

Poison traps are environmental hazards that are deployed by Vulgar Militia. They come in the form of a cluster of small spiked balls on the floor. Coming into contact with these will make them explode, releasing a poisonous gas that obscures the players vision, while also making any Vulgar Militiamen hiding in the general vicinity spring forth and ambush the player in the ensuing smokescreen.
