Oracle Envoy is a strange collection of enemies in Elden Ring. While able to engage in melee, they prefer to attack from a distance with bubbles of holy energy.

Overview[]

Oracle Envoys are bloodless creatures, [1] said to appear, playing their pipes, to herald the arrival of a new god or age.[2] They hide their face behind a soft bundle of densely wrapped cloth. No one knows what the cloth hides, but some claim to hear faint whimpering from inside.[3]

As a whole, Oracles are very slow, easy to avoid by running past them, and relatively passive creatures as they focus on their tasks. Their attacks are slow and telegraphed, particularly in melee, but can hit for appreciable damage; the two smaller ones are easy to stagger and keep stunlocked using heavier melee weapons. However, they become considerably more of a threat at a distance, particularly if you cannot reach them. Adding to this, once they become hostile, they can summon bubbles at your position even if you're on the other side of a wall or in a different room.

The regular oracles are of little threat individually, but almost aways appear in groups.

The large oracles can spawn additional bubbles and attack more regularly; they can also hover off the ground and out of reach for a limited time while they blow bubbles. This version also has surprising reach and dexterity with its very long weapon.

The giant Oracle Envoy is the least mobile of all, using its giant horn to cast a repeated barrage of large bubbles from afar or slamming it into anyone who comes too close. It can also jump in the air and do a repeated ground slam. This variant is only found in Miquella's Haligtree.

Trivia[]

  • Internally, these creatures are labeled as "MoonServants" followed by a Japanese word related to their appearance.
    • The common Oracles are called MoonServant_tibi, referring to a small child. These oracles are also one of relatively few non-wildlife enemies in the game that is noticeably smaller than the player character.
    • The Large Oracles are called MoonServant_noppo, referring to a tall or lanky person.
    • The Giant Oracles are called MoonServant_debu, meaning "fatso" or "chubby."
  • Their glacial speeds, passive demeanors, as well as their family of different sizes, may reference the mushroom people from Dark Souls.
