O, locus ille, beatus quondam, nunc deminuit. Nos, destinatae matribus, nunc fiunt turpes. Ploravimus lacrimavimusque, sed nemo nos consolatur. Aureum cui irascebaris? - Operatic Bat

Operatic Bats, also known as Harpies and Chanting Winged Dames, are enemies in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
Operatic Bats are wizened, emaciated women with leathery, bat-like wings. They are leaders amongst the Man-Bats, and are often found singing a Song of Lament. These winged dames were destined for motherhood, but were cheated long ago. They blame their sorrow on the actions of Queen Marika, who spurned them from Grace.[1]
Operatic Bats seem friendly but will turn hostile when the player comes close. Those with long, grey hair can produce a poisonous mist, while the ones with crowns can toss Large Glintstone Scraps and cast a Death Sorcery similar to Rancorcall.

O, that land, once blessed, has now withered. We’d been destined for motherhood, but now have become disfigured. We’ve wailed and we wept. But no one comforts us. Golden one, at whom were you angry? - Operatic Bat

Trivia[]
- Internal name: OldWomanBat
- The Song of Lament, performed by Hungarian singer Csádi Nóra, is the only song in Elden Ring with true Latin lyrics.[2]
- The poem is structured as Latin elegiac couplets, a classical form pairing a line in dactylic hexameter with one in dactylic pentameter. This meter alternates long and short syllables and was often used in antiquity for mourning or reflective themes. The poem follows this scheme with consistent 12- and 11-syllable lines and maintains a rhyme pattern in each couplet.
- The lyrics contain an official error: fiunt (“they’ve become”) was meant to be fimus (“we’ve become”), but it was never corrected due to time constraints. Additional edits were made to the text before recording.[2]
- Literal translation: "Oh, that place, once blessed, has now diminished. We, destined for mothers, are now becoming shameful. We have wept and wept, but no one consoles us. Golden, with whom were you angry?"
- The Man-Bats have cut animations and sound files for singing.
