For Elden Ring, seek Buffs. For ailments, seek Status Effects.
Buffs, Bonuses, Favors of the Night, and other Effects are gameplay mechanics in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Two main categories:
- Active effects
- Passive effects

- Bosses locked in Evergaols always offer two Dormant Powers. They frequently roll Rune of the Strong, which simply grants a large sum of runes.

Relic Effects[]
- Main article: Relics
Relic effects are baseline improvements that are carried over between Expeditions. They are gained by attaching Relics to an active Chalice at the Relic Rites station in the Shrouded Roundtable Hold. They persist on the character until they are removed or another Chalice is activated. Up to three Relics may be equipped to a Chalice, providing up to nine effects in total.
The Relic Rites menu filter groups Relic effects into six categories: Status Effect, Action Effect, Starting Bonus, Team Effect, Environment Effect, and Character-specific.
General

Character-specific

Weapon Effects[]
- Main article: Nightreign Armaments
Except for starting equipment, all Armaments (weapons, shields, torches, bows, staves, and sacred seals) grant a passive effect. These effects typically apply regardless of whether the item is actively held in the player's hands. However, effects marked with a hand icon require the weapon to be actively equipped, as indicated by the display on the bottom left corner of the screen. These effects still apply if the player is Two-Handing the weapon slotted in the other hand.
- Weapon effects stack
- Weapons of higher rarity have higher magnitude effects
- Certain effects like the "Power of Vengeance" gain stacks for each enemy slain, increasing the overall bonus.
- Weapons obtained from red phantoms (dead players) have an additional effect called "The [Nightfarer]'s Grief," which grants a stat bonus according to that Nightfarer's highest stat. These effects also stack.
- Defeating a Nightlord with one of these effects can grant the original owner 1,000 murk.

Buffs[]
Buffs are temporary bonuses with timed durations. They are typically acquired by using Skills, Spells, or Tools. They are also gained by activating certain objects, such as the Gold Firefly tree that grants a bonus to rune acquisition. Active buffs are displayed beneath the health bar.
They primarily come in three categories: Aura Buffs, Body Buffs, and Weapon Buffs. Only one version of a buff can be active at a time, and buffs from the same source typically do not stack.
- Boluses, such as Clarifying Boluses and Stanching Boluses, have a hidden effect. In addition to curing buildup, they apply a permanent Resistance bonus to the corresponding status ailment. This effect can stack up to +9. In other words, nine Boluses are required to reach maximum resistance. It lasts for the duration of the Expedition.
- Aura Buffs
Aura buffs apply a constant bonus or effect to entities within a certain distance. The effect is dispelled when the affected character is too far away. Most aura buffs available to the Nightfarers apply a positive bonus to nearby allies. Some apply debuffs to nearby foes.
- Body Buffs
Body buffs are self-targeted. Certain Spells that grant body buffs also apply their benefits to nearby allies. Unlike aura buffs, these do not expire early if the recipient leaves the effect radius. 1
- Weapon Buffs
All Weapon Buffs are self-targeted and grant a bonus to an equipped Armament, such as extra Fire Damage or Scarlet Rot buildup on attacks. Examples of weapon buffs include Determination, Poison Grease, and the
They apply their effects to the weapon equipped in the right hand (or both hands), rather than the player. As a result, they expire early if the weapon is unequipped or dropped. It's possible to keep two weapons buffed at the same time by two-handing the left-hand weapon and using either a Grease or a Skill on it, then stopping the two-handing so that the right-hand weapon also can be buffed with either a Grease or a Skill. It isn't necessary to use the same buff category for both weapons.
Some weapons cannot be buffed unless their innate skill grants them a weapon buff. They cannot be applied to ranged weapons, torches, staves, or sacred seals.[verification needed] For Weapon Buffs that are also either Sorceries or Incantations, they can only be cast on right-handed weapons (or left-handed shields for the shield-specific ones).
Notes[]
- Physical Attack Up effects still increase damage for weapons that have been changed from dealing Physical damage to another Damage Type. For example, these effects boost Wylder's Greatsword when a "Starting armament deals lightning damage" Relic is equipped.
