Morgott, the Omen King, is a remembrance boss in Elden Ring. He is a Demigod and a Shardbearer who is encountered in Leyndell, Royal Capital. He is not an optional boss and must be defeated to unlock Mountaintops of the Giants and progress the story.
Background[]
Morgott was cursed from birth
Morgott was a direct offspring of Lord Godfrey and Queen Marika, and the rightful heir to their Golden Lineage.[1] Despite his royal pedigree, he and his twin brother, Mohg,[2] were born with accursed blood that caused tangled horns to sprout from their infant bodies. Once revered as divine aspect of the Crucible, these growths branded them as Omen spurned by the Erdtree and excluded from its grace.[3] Though spared the painful excision of their horns, they were nonetheless banished to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds beneath Leyndell, Royal Capital.[4] A Regal Omen Bairn was made in secret to honor Morgott in a long-standing tradition.[5][6]
Unlike his twin, Morgott's devotion to the Erdtree never wavered.[3] He renounced his omen blood, extracted a portion of it, and sealed it away. The blood that formed Morgott's Cursed Sword caused it to shimmer in shifting hues, and so he encased it in stone and wielded it like a cane.[7] Several horns were removed from his brow line.
The Shattering[]
When Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring, Morgott claimed one of the Great Runes, which proved that he was indeed the Lord of Leyndell. With Leyndell in disarray, Morgott claimed the Erdtree capital for himself and defended it from the assault of his fellow demigods. While he succeeded in securing Leyndell against outsiders, he found that the Erdtree would not admit him, or anyone else, to claim the title of Elden Lord. Despite the fact that he had been reviled as an accursed fiend by the Golden Order, Morgott took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector.
He assumed the name Margit the Fell Omen during the Shattering, slaughtering champions who approached the Erdtree in the hopes of becoming Elden Lord.[8] Under this pseudonym, he also lead the Night's Cavalry, who assisted him in the killing of great warriors, knights and champions.[9] Simultaneously, he ruled Leyndell as the Veiled Monarch.[10] He was able to project himself to various parts of the Lands Between.
Game events[]
When the Tarnished returned, Morgott and his Night's Cavalry hunted them throughout the realm. Morgott first encounters the Tarnished at Stormgate, where he tests their mettle as Margit before allowing them to challenge Godrick for his Great Rune. Later, he ambushes the hero again by disguising a commoner as himself in the war-torn Capital Outskirts.
The Tarnished gains entrance to Leyndell, Royal Capital and challenges Morgott at the Elden Throne after claiming two shards of the Elden Ring. Denouncing the Tarnished and his siblings as willful traitors, Morgott launches his assault. As he falters during the battle, he unleashes his sealed curse to aid him, though he feels unbearable shame in doing so. Despite his efforts, he is ultimately defeated and stripped of his Great Rune.
Without his Rune, Morgott is freed from his curse, and transforms into an enfeebled old man. He warns the Tarnished the impenetrable thorns would bar them from becoming Elden Lord, just as they rejected him. After the Cardinal Sin and the release of the Rune of Death, Morgott was finally able to truly die. At the Ashen Capital, Godfrey returned just in time to find his son in his final moments, cradling him tenderly as Morgott's body crumbled into golden dust.[11][12]
Boss Fight[]
Melina and Dung Eater are both available as summons for this fight. For Dung Eater to be available, the player must have released him from his cell in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.

Phase 1[]
Morgott is a highly aggressive and fast-moving enemy, chaining together attacks in rapid succession while leaving few openings. His curved sword inflicts blood loss on impact, while the holy armaments he summons deal holy damage. He has ranged attacks, such as his throwing knives and spear, and utilises jumps, cartwheels, and dashes to close or create distance.
Phase 2[]
Once his health drops to 50%, Morgott performs an area of effect attack in which his cursed blood erupts from the ground. His blade becomes infused with his cursed blood, and he gains a number of bloodflame-based attacks. He may also summon golden blades that rain down from the sky.
Environment[]
The arena is a wide, circular platform with no obstacles, aside from the throne which will break if hit.

Notes[]
- Though a common characteristic on Misbegotten, Morgott is the only Omen to display the tail Crucible aspect.
- Morgott likely seized power during or in the aftermath of the First Defense of Leyndell. As Margit the Fell, he actively participated in the Second Defense of Leyndell.
- Morgott was known as the Grace-Given, presumably awarded grace for his loyalty and dedication to the Erdtree, despite being an Omen born without it. Ironically, he dismisses the player as "graceless" before their battle.
- His other title is the Veiled Monarch of Leyndell, an alias adopted to conceal his Omen heritage from the public. All of his appearances—whether participating in battle or hunting champions—were conducted under the guise of Margit, the Fell Omen.
- Morgott can summon spectral weapons during his fights, including the Treespear, Giant-Crusher, Erdsteel Dagger, and Carian Knight's Sword.
- While the first three weapons are associated with the Erdtree, its warriors, or its nobility, the Carian Knight's Sword originates with the Carian Royal Family, a curious choice given their shared ties to night.[13] This may imply Morgott once observed Carian Knights—perhaps the guards of visiting diplomats—or that he mastered the sword sorceries during the Shattering.
- Though he fought on the battlefield for the majority of his time as Elden Lord, Godfrey reveals he knew Morgott before their banishment.[11] He likely made the tanglehorn bairn in secret to memorialize his son,[5] an ancient hornsent practice.[6]
- The precious bairn has a tail and Morgott's general horn pattern. It is wrapped in a small cloak identical to the one he wears in game. It is obtained using the Remembrance of the Omen King and is the only Remembrance reward made to memorialize its subject.
- Until his defeat, Morgott's seal at the Cathedral of the Forsaken prevents access to the Frenzied Flame Proscription.
- Like Godrick the Grafted and other Demigods, Morgott remains alive after his defeat. He becomes an NPC that can be spoken to.
Trivia[]
- Morgott referred to himself as Elden Lord in a dialogue that was cut from the game.[14]
- There was a cut questline involving Shanehaight, a nobleman of the capital, who discovers the truth about their Veiled Monarch, much to their horror.[15]
- Morgott's name may be inspired by Morgoth, the alias of Melkor, the main and very first antagonist of Tolkien's Legendarium of Middle-earth.
