The Moonlight Altar is a subregion of the Lands Between in Elden Ring Liurnia of the Lakes and can only be accessed after advancing Ranni the Witch 's questline.
Overview [ ] A plateau on the east side of Liurnia bathed in the light of the Dark Moon .[ 1] Ainsel River and the Lake of Rot and defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void . The lift which leads to the Moonlight Altar is sealed, and can only be accessed by obtaining the Dark Moon Ring from the treasure chest in Rennala 's library in the Academy of Raya Lucaria .
The plateau, which sits above the Village of the Albinaurics , is the site of the Cathedral of Manus Celes , a large, ruined church. The Ringleader's Evergaol , housing the ringleader of the Black Knife Assassins , can also be found here.

Hidetaka Miyazaki : “The main design point for the Moonlight Altar was to be a place that exhibited a sense of mystery separate from that of the Erdtree. The colors, details, and other various design elements were intended to be distinct from those of the Erdtree, which may give it a different impression overall. The other reason is that we are simply very fond of moonlight and the tranquil loneliness associated with it. We always enjoy depicting moonlight in our games if we find the room to so [laughter]."”
