She is to meet them very soon. Her sisters. And when she does, she'll be defeated, surely, and begin to flower.Sage Gowry, about Millicent

Millicent's sisters are adopted daughters of Sage Gowry and siblings of Millicent. These red haired girls once sprouted as buds from the Scarlet Aeonia found within the heart of Caelid. They all wear the Traveler's Set and use weapons and skills associated with either aspects of their inadvertent mother Malenia, both her role as the unalloyed blade of Miquella and her looming transformation into the goddess of rot. They all seek to aid their adoptive father in cultivating Millicent into a Scarlet Valkyrie.

Overview[]

All sisters can be found in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree towards the end of Millicent's questline. To reach them the player needs to:

  • 1. Retrieve the snapped Unalloyed Gold Needle by defeating Commander O'Neil in the Heart of Aeonia.
  • 2. Give the snapped needle to Sage Gowry at Gowry's Shack so that he may repair it.
  • 3. Reload the area by either:
    • A. Resting at/teleporting to a Site of Grace
    • B. Exit to the Main Menu and then enter back into the game.
  • 4. Retrieve the repaired needle from Gowry and then give it to Millicent at the Church of the Plague.
  • 5. Reload the area by resting or teleporting to a grace then exhaust the dialogue of the now lucid Millicent.
  • 6. Reload once more so Millicent moves to Gowry's Shack then exhaust her dialogue there.
  • 7. Defeat the Godskin Apostle at the peak of Dominula, Windmill Village.
    • Optional: Millicent can be summoned as a cooperator to assist in this fight.
  • 8. Reload the area so Millicent may appear at the top of the Windmill Village and exhaust her dialogue.
  • 9. Millicent will now appear by the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace at Mountaintops of the Giants. Exhaust her dialogue there.
  • 10. Millicent will next appear by the Prayer Room site of grace in the beginning of Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. Exhaust her dialogue there.
  • 11. Defeat the Putrid Tree Spirit found in the isolated pool of Scarlet Rot just before the Drainage Channel site of grace in Elphael.
    • Optional: Players may talk to Sage Gowry at this time to unlock another option for the next step in Millicent's Quest.
  • 12. One/Two summon signs will appear on a hill next to the pool of rot. The player may chose one to influence the end of Millicent's questline.
    • A. Assist Millicent: Accepting the Gold Sign will summon the player to help defend Millicent against her sisters. Failing in this task by either the player or Millicent dying will send the player back to their own world but allows them to retry assisting her or change to the other side. Succeeding in this task will reward the player with the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and then the purified Unalloyed Gold Needle.
    • B. Challenge Millicent: Accepting the Red Sign will summon the player to help the sisters in killing Millicent. The player dying to Millicent will send them back to their own world but allows them to retry their attempt of killing her or change to the other option of assisting her. Succeeding in this task will reward the player with the Millicent's Prosthesis talisman.

Tactics[]

Successfully assisting Millicent can be accomplished with relative ease even with a character that hasn't leveled any of their attributes or weapons yet, as Millicent herself is significantly more powerful than any of the sisters individually. Her damage is high but her health is relatively low, so Millicent's safety is at the most risk only when she's greatly outnumbered and the majority of her sisters are attacking her at once.

Due to Millicent's high damage (particularly from her Waterfowl Dance), the player can equip the Shabriri's Woe Talisman and/or any pieces of the Duelist Set or Rotten Duelist Set to make the majority of the sisters more easily prone to chase them around the environment, leaving Millicent to deal with a single sister one at a time.

ER Polyanna pest

Polyanna casting Pest Threads

Since Polyanna can cast Pest Threads, she's the only one who can harm the running player from a distance and so it's preferable to leave her with Millicent first so she can eliminate Polyanna before she becomes a problem for the player.

Notes[]

  • Maureen's Treespear is unique and impossible to replicate by the player as it has Charge Forth. Instead the version the player has access to cannot be infused with Ashes of War and it has Sacred Order as it's default skill.
  • It's possible to infer that Millicent may be the fourth sister to sprout from the Heart of Aeonia due to the fact that Polyanna is still present in Caelid at the start of the questline while her older sisters are comparatively absent, due to them likely having a head start on their journey to the Haligtree as they would have been born earlier than both Millicent and Polyanna.
  • Since Malenia and Millicent can both blossom into giant flowers on death, it brings into question the large flower found in a chamber near the Haligtree Roots site of grace. It is unclear whether this is an earlier bloom from Malenia herself, as a copy of the Traveler's Set that can be found next to it may imply it is from one of the four sisters. However considering how much higher Gowry seems to value what Millicent's potential flower is likely going to be compared to her sisters, it may be from a sister we haven't heard of before.

Etymology[]

  • Polyanna is derived from a combination of the names Polly (which in of itself has roots from the name Mary) and can mean "sea" and Anna (Derived from the Hebrew name Hannah, meaning "grace").
    • "Polyanna" has also been historically used as noun to describe an excessively cheerful or optimistic person. Stemming from the name of a character created by US writer of children's stories, Eleanor Hodgman Porter.
  • Amy stems from French and means "beloved" or "well-loved". It's derived from the Latin word "amare" which in of itself means "to love".
  • Maureen and Mary's names both stem from the same Hebrew name Miriam. It can translate to "drop of the sea", "bitterness", "beloved" and "wish for a child".
