The kindling that burned inside Messmer the Impaler, a dark thing, eaten away at by a wicked serpent.Messmer's Kindling

Messmerfire, also known as Messmer's Kindling and Messmer's Flame, is an inextinguishable dark-red serpentine flame that is strongly associated with Messmer the Impaler and his Fire Knights. It holds the destructive power of burning the sealing tree that blocks the entrance to Enir-Ilim, where the mysterious Gate of Divinity is located.

Background[]

Long ago, the demigod Messmer the Impaler was born with a dark flame that burned within him and is being eaten away at by a wicked and malevolent serpent called the Base Serpent whose essence stirred within his body[1]. Messmer despises his own flame and often tried to rid himself of it again and again only to discover his folly; his flame will forever burn.[2]

Later, Messmer's mother Marika, sends her son on an endless Crusade against the Hornsent, the tower-dwelling people inhabiting the Realm of Shadow, as they do not possess Marika's grace. During the Crusade, Messmer and his army cleansed the realm with fire, destroying everything in their path and putting them to the torch. This caused the surviving Hornsent to develop a strong hatred of Messmer and his followers to the point where they began to seek out vengeance for their betrayal.
