Lightning Fortification is an incantation spell in Elden Ring. It is one of the Two Fingers incantations.

Description[]

Incantation of the Two Fingers' faithful.
Increases lightning damage negation. This incantation can be cast while in motion.

Acquisition[]

Purchase: Roundtable Hold / Altus Plateau / Leyndell, Royal Capital / Mountaintops of the Giants

Sold for 7,500 Runes by Brother Corhyn after he moves to Altus Plateau.
Should Corhyn die before purchasing this Incantation from him, the player can still purchase it from the Twin Maiden Husks for the same price, after giving them Corhyn's Bell Bearing.
- WARNING: If the player lights the Forge of the Giants before this incantation appears in Corhyn's inventory, it will become unavailable for that character until a new Journey is started.

Effects[]

Lightning Fortification grants a Body Buff that decreases Lightning damage taken by 35% (10% in PvP) for 90 seconds.

Costs 20 FP per cast.
Costs 13 Stamina per cast.
Requires 1 Memory Slot to be equipped.
This spell reduces lightning damage taken rather than directly increasing damage negation. The total damage reduction can be expressed by the following formula, where LightningFortification represents the effect magnitude:

- For example, if lightning damage negation is 25 at the time of casting, the total reduction against PvE enemies would be 51.25%:
  $TotalLightningReduction=100(1-(1-25\times 0.01)\times (1-0.35))=51.25\%$
- Against other players, the total reduction would be 32.5%:
  $TotalLightningReduction=100(1-(1-25\times 0.01)\times (1-0.10))=32.5\%$

Strategies[]

The effectiveness of this spell diminishes as lightning damage negation increases, offering less benefit when stacked with multiple lightning negation sources.
Lightning Fortification is a moderately effective defensive spell with low casting requirements, usable by most starting Origins when equipped with the Two Fingers Heirloom and a Finger Seal.
This incantation is especially valuable against Leyndell Knights, Silver Tears, and Spark Orbs, particularly in Crumbling Farum Azula, where lightning damage is prevalent.
Lightning Fortification offers greater lightning protection than Lightningproof Dried Liver (35% vs. 15%) but at a shorter duration (90 vs. 120 seconds). This spell requires 10 Faith and 1 Memory Slot to be equipped and 20 FP to cast, while the Dried Liver only requires crafting materials.
- The Lightningproof Dried Liver is preferable for PvP encounters, as both effects are reduced to 10%.
