Libra, Creature of Night (夜の魔、リブラ, Yoru no Ma, Ribura), also known as Equilibrius Beast (調律の魔物, Chouritsu no Mamono), is a Night Lord boss in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Overview[]

Libra is a capricious, goat-headed demon obsessed with equality and fairness. He disguises himself as a Scale-Bearing Merchant and offers a deal before the fight. He offers three deals, pulled from a randomized pool. Each deal is a Monkey's Paw wish: it provides a powerful buff, but comes at a great cost. Players may decline to bargain or simply attack Libra outright.

"I wish to have great strength"	Raises Strength, but decreases all other Attributes
"I wish to have great dexterity"	Raises Dexterity, but decreases all other Attributes
"I wish to expand my intellect"	Raises Intelligence, but decreases all other Attributes
"I wish to have deep faith"	Raises Faith, but decreases all other Attributes
"I wish to be in touch with the arcane"	Raises Arcane, but decreases all other Attributes
"I want resistance to ailments"	Increases Resistances, but decreases Stamina
"I want to hold death at bay"	HP is fully restored once when critically injured, but maximum HP is reduced.
"I wish for more agility"	Raises Stamina, but reduces maximum HP and FP
"I want a high level"	Grants 3 levels, but drinking the Flask subtract a level
"I desire a flask"	Adds a Flask charge, but reduces maximum HP
"I desire a powerful weapon"	Grants a random purple rarity weapon, but subtracts 2 levels.
"I want to gain many levels"	Grants levels, but subtracts a Flask charge for every level gained
"I wish for eventual greatness"	Triples HP, FP, and Stamina, but halves all other Attributes
"I want the power of a demon"	Grants an Eye that shoots enemies, which builds up Madness when used
"I wish to fight at full strength"	Player and Libra receive a temporary attack and defense buff

Libra deals Physical and Holy damage, and inflicts Madness buildup.
He uses the Crossed Legs gesture to inflict Madness. He is shielded by a golden sphere when he meditates in this way. The barrier can be shattered through force or by destroying the nearby sigils.
- If the orb is shattered, he loses control and rampages like a beast.
- If he finishes channeling, he enters a more composed state.
Its attacks sometimes generate tiny false-gold pieces. Collect them to reduce Madness buildup.
When it uses the chanting attack that makes a goat eye icon appear over the Nightfarers, prioritize collecting the yellow embers to avoid the incoming Frenzy proc.

This Nightlord is fought on the final day of the Equilibrious Beast Expedition.
This boss is vulnerable to a Critical Attack after its stance is broken.
When Libra starts pummeling the ground and summoning a Madness aura, run around and collect as many false-gold pieces around the arena as you can. Each one heals you a bit but most importantly, alleviates Madness buildup.

Internal name: Baphomet
His connection to dubious alchemy and counterfeit gold are likely a play on the fact that the Japanese word for western alchemy, 錬金術 (Renkinjutsu, lit. the art of refining gold) refers in modern parlance to hucksters making money through unethical means and scams.
He wields his staff in his left hand. Making him the next unique left-handed character that Fromsoft puts in their games. There’s always at least one in each installment. That is, Iron Golem in Dark Souls 1, Fume Knight and Throne Watcher in Dark Souls 2, Old Demon King and Dancer of the Boreal Valley in Dark Souls 3, Ludwig in Bloodborne, and Messmer in Elden Ring. Artorias was also rumored to be left-handed, before his arm was shattered.
His name, Libra, is the same as a star sign in Astrology. Its unique symbol is that of a balance/scale, and its gemstone is an Opal. Its most prominent traits are that of Balance, Diplomacy, Charm, Intelligence, and Fairness.
Libra is referred to as a Demon (悪魔, Akuma), making him the first of his kind in the Elden Ring universe.
- The demons of the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls universes are known as デモン (Demon) in the Japanese script, a simple transcription of the English word Demon, while Libra uses 悪魔 (Akuma), a Japanese word which refers to demons such as the buddhist Mara and Christian devil, tying into its links to Baphomet, a medieval Christian garbling of the name of the Islamic prophet, which was later attached to Éliphas Lévi's Sabbatic Goat, an iconic depiction of a goat-headed figure which formed the basis for Libra's design.
