The lampreys that guard the finger ruins resemble fingers far more than they do humans, and so the finger-weavers imitated their sorcery.Glinting Nail

Lampreys are enemies in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Overview[]

The lampreys are eel-like humanoids distinguished by their eight eyes, circular jaws, and diminutive legs. They hunt using Glinting Nails and are the progenitors of the Finger Sorceries practiced by the finger-weavers.[1] These enigmatic creatures can slip into white wormholes, enabling them to quickly teleport around the Finger Ruins they safeguard. Pearlescent Scales, a key component of Fingerprint Nostrum, grow inward deep within their skin.[2] Some use this dubious form of esoteric medicine to transform their bodies into fingers,[3] becoming lampreys instead.

Variants[]

Lampreys are either black or pale in appearance. All variants are gaunt, elongated figures with smooth, slippery skin. Dorsal and caudal fins line their long tails, which they use to prop themselves upright in a curved posture. Their drooped faces bear four sets of forward-facing, human-like eyes. They have five fingers on their large hands, but three digits on their vestigial feet. Strips of what appear to be shed skin or textile loosely cling to their lower body.

There are three variants of this enemy: Black Lamprey, White Lamprey, and Giant Lamprey.

Black Lamprey

The black lampreys are the standard variant of this enemy type.

White Lamprey

The pinkish-white lampreys dwell in the foggy Finger Ruins of Dheo. These individuals have additional attacks that deal Poison damage. They appear to vomit a mixture of blood, bile, and worms when fighting at short range.

Giant Lamprey

The largest lampreys are vigilant sentries that cast binding magic from afar. These creatures act as stationary turrets, maintaining their position and refusing to pursue distant targets that move out of their line of site. However, they are more active when fighting nearby targets.

Giant lampreys conjure explosive purple spheres and hurl them at their targets. Upon detonation, the blast stuns the victim with concentric purple rings for a few seconds. If their target is stunned by their Finger Snare attack, one nearby lamprey will teleport in to perform a grab attack.

Notes[]

  • White Lampreys are exclusively found in the Finger Ruins of Dheo.
  • Many lampreys are often found sleeping, coiled in a resting position. These individuals are harder to spot in the craggy terrain.
  • On rare occasions, a small lamprey may teleport to the player even if the purple stun projectile fails to hit.
