The Haligtree (聖樹, Seiju) is a location that lies far to the north of Leyndell, Royal Capital and is just off the coast of the Consecrated Snowfield.

Creation[]

The Haligtree was the brainchild of Miquella, who sought to create his own haven after leaving the Golden Order due to the fact that nothing within its teachings could assist Malenia the Severed in subduing the Scarlet Rot that infested her body.

Miquella nurtured the tree as a sapling and fed it his own Empyrean blood. His plan was to entomb himself into the tree as it grew. While it grew, he would learn, and eventually, become strong enough to lift the curses on both himself and his beloved sister Malenia.

After Miquella wrapped himself in his cocoon, he was soon stolen away by Mohg, Lord of Blood, who was working at the direction of the Outer God known as the Formless Mother. He was ripped from the tree and brought to Mohgwyn Palace. This was done in secret, as none within the Haligtree knew Miquella had even been taken, much less where he would've gone.

The Haligtree was hidden far to the north, away from most others. It can only be reached by use of a secret medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold, and crossing the dangerous snowfield to find a hidden portal to the tree itself.

Without Miquella in the Haligtree, it began to wilt. When Cleanrot Knight Finlay brought Malenia's comatose body following her conflict in Caelid with General Radahn, she was placed at the roots of the Haligtree. While she lie in a coma, her blood would seep into the Haligtree, partially decaying it and infesting it slowly with Scarlet Rot.

Modern Times[]

The Haligtree is known to be a sort of promised land for Albinaurics and other misfits in society such as the Misbegotten. It was the former Carian knight Loretta who embarked on a long and bloody journey to find a sanctuary for the Albinauric people, and determined that the Haligtree was their best chance at salvation. Gideon Ofnir was charged with finding a way to the Haligtree and sent his shadow Ensha to find it. Ensha went to the Village of the Albinaurics to find the medallion and even slew the hero Latenna's wolf partner in order to find the medallion. His mission ended in failure.

Trivia[]

In the game, the Haligtree consists of two sections, the upper one, Miquella's Haligtree, which houses a town in the canopy of the tree, and the lower one, Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, a powerful fortress at its base, where the majority of Malenia and Miquella forces now reside.

"Hālig" in Old English meant "holy" and "sacred", so the name translates to "holy-tree".[1][2]
