The Golden Lineage is a faction in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
The Golden Lineage is the royal bloodline descended from the union of Lord Godfrey and Queen Marika. A two-headed war axe and a golden lion serves as the emblem of their family, the former representing the favorite weapon of their founding patriarch and the latter being the likeness of his loyal advisor Serosh, Lord of Beasts.
Background[]
Founders[]
After their victory against the giants and the Sealing of Destined Death, the fate of the Erdtree and the Golden Order was considered secured and thus the Elden Lord, Godfrey and God-Queen, Marika established a royal lineage with their first demigod children together, with Beast Regent, Serosh and his counseling serving as a guide for the generations to come.[1]
Before long, Godfrey continued on his campaign to expand the Golden Order's influence and rule and strengthening his reputation as the Lord of the Battlefield,[2] a reputation that would be quickly followed up in modest by their immediate children, but became a suffocating shadow that would progressively tower higher and higher over his later descendants.
• King Godfrey, First Elden Lord (patriarch) |
First Descendants[]
The immediate descendants of their family's founders, these children would be the first to carry the unified blood of both Godfrey and Marika.
Many of these individuals would go on to make their names known, forging their own stories and pursue their own goals, fueled by their own convictions. Indeed these apples did truly not fall far from their tree.
• Godwyn the Golden • Morgott, the Omen King • Mohg, Lord of Blood |
Later Descendants[]
Unlike the first generation after Godfrey, many of the later descendants would become obsessed with their pedigree and status as a reputable, important bloodline. Continuously riding the glory of their founding father's accomplishments while progressively becoming less and less comparable to his greatness with each passing generation.
The current-day dregs of the golden lineage would go desperately searching for power and purpose in the past.[3] Excavating for ancient relics and surrounding themselves with artifacts of a golden era, an era they played no part in and had long since passed.
• Godefroy the Grafted |

Notes[]
- Before the Tarnished's battle with him, Godrick refers to a fallen dragon as "trueborn heir" and a "kindred".[4] While it's unlikely that he is actually related to the dragon by blood, they are related on a thematic level. As the specific species of dragon Godrick is speaking to is in a similar existential situation as he is, a lesser descendant of greater ancestors.
- Even in the moment where he grafts the dragon's head onto himself, Godrick continues to reafirm the dragon's value, reffering to it as "the truest of dragons". As by reafirming it's value, he is by extention attempting to affirm his own value as well.
- Cut content suggests that Gatekeeper Gostoc is actually a son of Godrick the Grafted. Should this still be true in the final game, then this would make Gostoc a member of the Golden Lineage.
