The Giants' Flame is the flame of ruin, capable of burning the Erdtree.- Surge, O Flame!
The Giants' Flame, also known as the flame of ruin or Flame of the Fell God, is an ancient and inextinguishable fire associated with the Fire Giants and the fell god.[1][2]
The flame of ruin posed a dire threat to the sanctity of the impending Age of the Erdtree,[3] and so Marika commanded her Lord, Godfrey, and the champions of the Erdtree to slay the giants and confine the flame upon the Flame Peak.[5] Despite their opposition to the Giants' Flame, they used its power in the form of a protective incantation during the war.[7] According to legend, it was Marika herself who vanquished the fell god.[8]
After the Fire Giants' defeat,[9] Marika found that the flames of the forge could never be fully extinguished, and so she struck the last remaining Fire Giant with a curse, condemning him to tend the flame for eternity.[2] The Fire Monks were appointed as the Flame's guardians,[3] and the path to the mountaintops was marked as the Forbidden Lands.[10]
Age of the Erdtree[]
The fell god's Flame remained anathema to the Erdtree faith,[11] and was a forbidden subject during Queen Marika's reign.[12]Prophets who caught glimpses of the fated burning of the Erdtree were declared to be heretics and banished.[13] However, the flame of ruin continued to smolder within the forge on the northern mountaintops,[4] guarded by the Fire Monks and their Prelates.[14] These stewards, entrusted with the Giantsflame,[3] eventually succumbed to its allure,[15] becoming its worshippers out of reverence and fear.[16][17]
In time, the Melina, or a potential Lord of Frenzied Flame, reached the forge atop Flame Peak.[20] Harnessing the power of the flame of ruin, they ignited the Erdtree.[21]
