The Giant Ant is an enemy in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
These enormous insects are often found in groups, primarily underground where they can be seen clinging to walls and even ceilings; however, some can be found in select areas of the surface world such as the Haligtree's outer branches. Their chitinous armor is resistant to slashing attacks, but they are more prone to fire. They patrol and protect their tunnels with their powerful jaws and acid-spewing stingers, depositing clumps of highly acidic rock formed from solidified giant ant venom.
A number of items have been fashioned out of ant body parts: Maleigh Marais created the Antspur Rapier, the spur of a giant ant which has been fashioned into a rapier, whose blade drips with scarlet rot. The huge head of one of the giant ants which inhabit the two underground rivers, was used without modification as a shield, excelling at repelling enemy attacks. Giant ants are venomous creatures, it also grants a boost to immunity when wielding the shield. Using the acidic rock dropped by the ants, a forbidden art of depraved perfumers releases an acidic mist from user's mouth, damaging armaments and temporarily lowering attack power.
The Nox people also utilize Giant Ants with glowing purple eyes as mounts in place of horses; however, lulling the Ants to sleep seems to break a trance, causing them to immediately turn on their masters. Ants not controlled by the Nox are also quite susceptible to sleep.
Giant ants come in a variety of different forms:
- Worker Ants: The most common ant type, these creatures cluster in groups and attack with their jaws, acid sprays, and, if too close, they will attempt a grab attack to pierce you with their spurs. The acid spray has surprising range and bypasses a shield's guard, so avoiding getting hit is recommended.
- Winged Ants: Otherwise identical to their worker counterparts, these ants can hover out of reach of melee attacks and move faster.
- Shield Ants: These ants have enlarged, heavily-armored heads that are highly resistant to damage and make them hard to stagger. Their bites can inflict poison, and they will attempt to knock enemies over with a ram attack.
- Queen Ants: Defenseless and stationary, these rare and extremely bloated ants do not respawn when killed; they drop valuable items, but are often heavily guarded.
