Ghostflame Breath is an incantation spell in Elden Ring. It is one of the Dragon Communion Incantations.
Description[]
One of the incantations of Dragon Communion.
Transforms caster into a dragon to spew ghostflame breath. Charging extends duration.
The land of spiritgraves is home to all manner of dead, and even the corpses of fallen dragons found their way there. Several of them were endowed with such vivacity that even in death, they could not fully die.
Acquisition[]
Dragon Communion: Limgrave / Caelid / Jagged Peak
- Acquired from the altar at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion on the Jagged Peak for 3 Dragon Hearts.
Effects[]
The caster floats up into the air and summons a dragon head, before breathing out a wave of deathly mist, dealing Magic damage equal to 168% of Incantation Scaling and inflicting 55 Frostbite build-up up to 3 times (i.e. 504% of Incantation Scaling and 165 Frostbite build-up cumulatively) if the entire wave hits.
Continue channeling the spell to let loose a second breath, also hitting up to 3 times.
Notes[]
- Costs 60 points of Stamina to cast, and another 60 points upon using the follow-up breath.
- Damage is boosted by 10% by the Roar Medallion.
- Damage is boosted by 15% per Dragon Communion Seal held in an active hand (2 max).
- Damage is boosted by 20% when the Rock Heart is used.
- This spell can be cast midair but cannot be cast while mounted, unlike Dragonice.
- Of the three Frostbite-causing Dragon Breaths (this spell, Dragonice, and Borealis's Mist), this is the most cost-effective for Magic damage, but causes considerably less Frostbite build-up.
- Compared to Dragonice, this spell deals 25% more damage but also consumes 20% more FP and causes 50% less Frostbite build-up.
- Compared to Borealis's Mist, this spell deals 5% more damage and consumes 15% less FP but causes 50% less Frostbite build-up.
- Casting this spell until it stops costs 144 FP: 2*36 FP from the two breaths and 12*6 FP from keeping the spell running.
- Only 79 FP is actually needed for the entire routine. This is just enough to start the second breath and thereafter the game does not care that no FP remains as it will continue casting regardless.
- Deals 20% less damage against other players.
Trivia[]
- Despite not being a named dragon breath, it behaves like one. This means that the caster floats in midair and that it cannot be cast when riding Torrent.
- This is effectively the second strongest "named" dragon breath attack, dealing 11% less damage than Smarag's Glintstone Breath and only 0.6% less damage than Agheel's Flame (the latter is only if an enemy's Fire Damage Negation and Magic Damage Negation is equal), and deals 8% more damage than Rotten Breath.
- However, the, admittedly low, Frostbite build-up of the spell can even the field against non-immune enemies as it deals a significant amount of percentage-based damage and lowers their Damage Negation against further attacks.
- Patch 1.07 the power of the following incantations in PvP has been decreased.
- The multiplier for damage against other players was lowered from 100% to 80%.
