Gelmir Man-Serpent is an enemy in Elden Ring.

Overview[]

It is said that long ago, the elder serpent that dwelled on Mt. Gelmir devoured a demigod, and the birth of the man-serpents followed.[1] The sword variants usually wield a Man-Serpent's Shield, which depicts a serpent's head in its center.

Strategy Guide Description[]

Elden Ring Official Strategy Guide Vol 2 - Shards of the Shattering
Gelmir Man-Serpents are purportedly the hybrid offspring of the God Devouring Serpent, and are inhabitants and protectors of the inner dwellings of the Volcano Manor within Mt. Gelmir. While initially appearing only noticeably taller than a human, being part serpent these enemies are capable of stretching their body up to a much greater height, allowing them to survey much more of their surroundings or use their serpentine form to twist and writhe during attacks.

Strategy While there are a variety of Getmir Man-Serpents with different weapons and abilities, all of their defenses are the same across the board. Most notably, these enemies are completely immune to Fire damage, likely due to the lava of the volcano which they call home. All other damage types are worthwhile against them, and they are quite weak to both Frostbite and Sleep. They are also mildly susceptible to Blood Loss, making it a decent option for a variety of builds when fighting them.

Gelmir Man-Serpent (Whip) This variant is encountered by itself in only one area within the Volcano Manor. While it is not perhaps as deadly as some other variants, it can be considerably more aggressive. Their candlestick whip is three-pronged, creating three stretching whips with each attack that can cover a considerable distance. Most of their attacks can be blocked or dodged easily enough, but be wary of their flurry combo attack which may go on for longer than you expect, potentially catching you off guard after a successful dodge or black

Gelmir Man-Serpent (Curved Sword) Sword wielding Man-Serpents are the most common variant, and can be found throughout the Volcano Manor, Prison Town as well as the buildings surrounding the crater at Mt. Gelmir's summit. They fight using horizontal and vertical sword slashes as well as a Poison inducing grab and can extend their bodies to increase the reach of their melee attacks.

Gelmir Man-Serpent (Magma Blade) Similar to the Curved Sword variant, the key differenca here is that their weapon made from volcanic rock is searing hot, making their attacks deal Fire damage in addition to Physical. Their slam attack can leave a patch of fire on the ground that will cause continuous damage when standing in it. You can acquire this rare weapon for yourself, but it can only drop from this variant type and has a very low drop rate-use items that boost your Arcane and Item Discovery stats when trying to acquire this weapon

Gelmir Man-Serpent (Magma Whip, Throat Pouch) This variant is similar to the other whip version but with a constantly burning whip, adding Fire damage to their attacks. Twirling their whip around them causes the magma to drip off, leaving patches of lava on the ground that will burn you if stepped on. Like the other whip variant, there is only one of these enemies to encounter in the Volcano Manor. Due to the large area of its fiery attacks, it's best dealt with using ranged attacks or spells. If melee is your preference, simply keep your distance from its bigger attacks, and then close the gap while avoiding pools of lava.

Gelmir Man-Serpent (Shell) This enemy is another only encountered once throughout the Volcane Manor and is easily identified from a distance due to the large snake egg shell it wears on its head. Unlike the other variants, this enemy is a spellcaster, using it's Gelmir Glintstone Staff to cast Swift Glintstone Shard and Great Glintstone Shard. They will also endlessly slam their shell-covered head into the ground when you are within melee range, which can be easily strafed.

These enemies have a grab attack that can instantly Poison you unless you have high Poison resistance. If you see them twisting around to go in for a bite attack, immediately dodge backward to avoid the grab.

The throat pouch this enemy has enables it to spew Poison. This attack has a rather short range and can be blocked to reduce the Poison buildup. While a puddle of the poisonous spew will form where it lands, it will not Poison you when standing on it.
