Fia, Deathbed Companion is an NPC character in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
Fia is initially located at the Roundtable Hold in the room adjacent to Smithing Master Hewg. She may be hugged to gain a Baldachin's Blessing. At a certain point during her questline, she moves to the Prince of Death's Throne at the Deeproot Depths.
Fia's quest intersects with the questlines of D, Hunter of the Dead; D, Beholder of Death; Ranni the Witch; and Sorcerer Rogier.
Background[]
Fia was once a Deathbed Companion. She would receive the warmth and vigor from champions, and then lay with the remains of an exalted noble, to grant him another chance at life.[1] This was the sole purpose of Fia's existence, and was considered a sacred act in her homeland.[2]
However, before Fia could bear the noble into new life, she was awakened by the guidance of grace, and chased from her birthplace, travelling to the Lands Between.[3] At some point she met a chivalrous knight by the name of Lionel the Lionhearted. Upon meeting the exiled Fia, Lionel declared himself to be her father, and became her loyal companion..[4]
Fia found herself in Roundtable Hold, where she continued to perform her role as a Deathbed Companion. Here, she encountered Rogier, a spellblade obsessed with Those Who Live in Death, and a Tarnished champion seeking to become Elden Lord. Rogier began an investigation into the events surrounding the Night of Black Knives, which had led to the death of Godwyn, aided by the Tarnished champion. Fia subtly aided the pair in their investigation, pointing them towards the Black Knifeprint[5], and granted her services to the Tarnished champion, taking their warmth and vigor in exchange for her blessings.
Unbeknownst to the other Tarnished of Roundtable Hold, Fia was the companion of Godwyn, the Prince of Death, and wished to become a mother to Those Who Live in Death.[6] After asking the Tarnished to return a Weathered Dagger to D, Hunter of the Dead, Fia kills D, who was in possession of one half of the Cursemark of Death[7], and returns the Cursemark to the malformed corpse of Godwyn in Deeproot Depths. She then solicits the assistance of the Tarnished in retrieving the other half of the Cursemark, which she uses to gestate a Mending Rune that can embed the principle of Life in Death into Order.[8]
D, Beholder of Death, seeking revenge for his brother, D, kills Fia after she creates her Mending Rune.

- Roundtable Hold
- Fia can be found in her room in Roundtable Hold. Initially she will be available to provide a Baldachin's Blessing.
- After Rogier comes to Roundtable Hold and discusses the Night of Black Knives, Fia will provide a Knifeprint Clue. The Black Knifeprint must be obtained and given to Rogier.
- Roundtable Hold
- After triggering the Radahn Festival, Fia will ask you to return the Weathered Dagger to its rightful owner. You must give this to D, Hunter of the Dead, and reload the area.
- Fia can now be found in a previously locked room, standing over D's corpse. Exhaust her dialogue and she will disappear.
- Deeproot Depths
- Defeat Fia's Champions and rest at the Site of Grace. Fia will be sitting in front of Godwyn's corpse. She will offer you the opportunity to kill her. To continue her questline, select "No, I want to be held." Selecting "That's right" will not lock you out of the rest of the questline, and you can change your mind by speaking to her again.
- While being held, choose "Talk in Secret" to learn about the Cursemark of Death.
- Divine Tower of Liurnia
- In order to access the Divine Tower of Liurnia, you need to have progressed Ranni the Witch's quest and received the Carian Inverted Statue. Use the statue on the pedestal in the first room of the Carian Study Hall and progress through the area to the Divine Tower.
- Retrieve the Cursemark of Death from the top of the tower.
- Deeproot Depths
- Speak to Fia again and select "Talk in Secret" until you receive the option to hand Fia the Cursemark of Death.
- Exhaust her dialogue once again and reload the area to find her sleeping.
- Deathbed Dream
- Interact with Fia's body to enter the Deathbed Dream. Defeat Lichdragon Fortissax to return to Deeproot Depths.
- Deeproot Depths
- Loot the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince from Fia's body. This will allow you to achieve the Age of Duskborn ending.
- Reload the area to find Fia dead, with D, Beholder of Death standing over her.
Notes[]
- Fia will not fight you if attacked, however skull-like projectiles resembling those summoned when casting Rancorcall will spawn above her head and target you. Her dialogue when attacked implies that Godwyn is the source of these projectiles.

Introduction |
---|
Greetings, great champion called by grace. |
I am Fia. |
Circumstances have compelled my stay at the Roundtable Hold. |
Great champion, would you allow me to hold you, but briefly? |
Perhaps you might share with me some of your lifely vigour, and your stout-heartedness. |
Doing so will grant me the warmth of a champion. |
And you, I am sure, will bear a baldachin's blessing. |
Do you think it vulgar, perhaps? |
Where I come from, it is a sacred act. |
"Refuse" (first time) |
I understand. |
Your disdain is only natural. |
But should you change your mind... |
Come pay me another visit. |
If talked to after replying "Refuse" |
Oh, my dear... |
Had a change of heart already? |
"Let her hold you" (first time) |
Ah, my thanks, great champion. |
You are...very warm... |
What you felt light up inside you was a baldachin's blessing. |
Though it is but a fleeting thing, I am afraid. |
Come back to me, should you require another. |
I will take you in my arms as often as you need. |
Asking to be held with a Baldachin's Blessing in inventory |
I am pleased to see you again. |
Would you like me to hold you, once more? |
The blessing is still aflame in your breast, dear. |
Would you like to be held, regardless? |
"Let her hold you" |
Now, come closer... |
You are so...very warm... |
After being held |
Then good day to you, my dear. |
"Talk in secret" |
I was known as a Deathbed Companion, where I come from. |
After I received the warmth and lifely vigour from a number of champions, |
I lay with the remains of an exalted noble, to grant him another chance at life. |
To do so is the purpose of my being. |
But before I could bear the noble into new life, |
I was awakened by the guidance of grace, and chased from my birthplace. |
Pray, be kind. |
Despite all that, I still wish to be a Deathbed Companion. |
So please, let me hold you like this, as often as it takes. |
"About Black Knifeprints" |
My dear... |
Have you ever heard of black knifeprints? |
Dear Rogier likes to talk of them when abed. |
And the ancient plot, in which the first of the Demigods was slain. |
The black knives wielded by the assassins who committed the act, |
along with the impressions they made, somehow hide the truth of the conspiracy. |
These grand affairs are hardly my forté... |
But dear Rogier began to weep as he spoke... |
"About Black Knifeprints" cont'd |
Dear Rogier likes to talk of it when abed. |
The ancient plot, in which the first of the Demigods was slain. |
The black knives wielded by the assassins who committed the act, |
along with the impressions they made, somehow hide the truth of the conspiracy. |
Giving the Black Knifeprint Clue |
In truth I've heard tell from someone else, |
about the black knifeprints that fascinate dear Rogier so. |
But It wouldn't be right to give this to him, stuck as he is in the Roundtable Hold. |
Perhaps you could make use of it? |
After giving Rogier the Black Knifeprint |
I heard that you lent a hand to dear Rogier. |
He seemed positively elated. |
He must be possessed of great mental fortitude. |
It anchors his will, and sustains him, despite his grievous wounds. |
You truly are a champion. |
To dear Rogier, and myself, too. |
Giving the Weathered Dagger |
My dear... |
Might I ask something of you? |
Could you please find the owner of this dagger, and return it to them? |
A certain person gave it to me, as a gift. |
It's a very precious thing. It must have a special place in the owner's heart. |
So I would like for the original owner to have it back, if you wouldn't mind. |
If talked to again |
I'd like you to find the owner of the dagger I gave you, and return it to them. |
It's a very precious thing. It must have a special place in the owner's heart. |
After giving the Weathered Dagger to D, Hunter of the Dead |
Finally, it is returned to its rightful place. |
The stolen hallowbrand, of the exalted noble. |
And now, I must bid you goodbye as well. |
Though I ask you deliver this message to the Roundtable Hold. |
I am Fia, Deathbed Companion. |
Hark, Roundtable. Disturb not the Death of Godwyn, the exalted. |
We, who humbly live in Death... |
Live in waiting, to one day welcome our Lord. |
What right does anyone have to object? |
Our Lord will rise. The Lord of the many, and the meek. |
After defeating Fia's Champions |
Ah...there you are. |
I knew you would come. |
What is it you intend? |
To deny us, and our ways? |
Like the dogmatic brutes of the Golden Order? |
"That's right" |
I see. Then you must kill me. |
For I am the companion of Godwyn, Prince of Death. |
I wished to be a mother to Those Who Live in Death. |
So it is, that any loathing, any hatred that overshadows them... |
I must bear, as a matter of duty, with my own flesh. |
If talked to again after replying "That's right" |
Go on, kill me. |
You deny us, do you not? |
Because we deign to live in Death, and wish our Lord to rise to glory. |
"No, I wish to be held" |
You are an odd one. |
I am the guardian of Those Who Live in Death. |
They call me a foul and rotten witch. |
Yet you still wish to be held by me? |
"Talk in secret" (before obtaining the Cursemark of Death) |
Have you ever seen a hallowbrand? |
When the first of the demigods died, his flesh was marked with the half-wheel wound of the centipede. |
Godwyn's hallowbrand has since been recovered at the Roundtable Hold. |
But there is another hallowbrand out there somewhere. |
And I must find it. |
Before the time comes we receive our Lord. |
"Talk in secret" again |
When Godwyn died, a hallowbrand scored his flesh. |
But another exists. Another mark in the shape of the half-wheel wound of the centipede. |
And I must find it. |
Before the time comes we receive our Lord. |
My hands will be dirtied once more by the deed. |
Will you still let me hold you, even then? |
Giving Fia the Cursemark of Death |
...! |
This...is the other hallowbrand. |
How did you... |
Oh, my utmost thanks. |
With this, Godwyn can take his rightful place as First of the Dead. |
And claim a second, illustrious life. |
You are my-- our true champion. |
And though I can't be of any use to you... |
Can I hold you tight, if only for a moment? |
"Talk in secret" (after giving the Cursemark of Death) |
I will soon lay with Godwyn. |
And it will surely stir within me. |
the new life of the golden prince, and first Dead of the demigods, |
as the rune of Those Who Live in Death. |
Please, do one thing for me. |
Brandish this child, my rune, and take for yourself the throne. |
Stay the persecution of Those Who Live in Death. |
By becoming our Elden Lord. |
"Talk in secret" again |
I will soon lay with Godwyn. |
To conceive my child, the rune. |
Brandish my rune, and take for yourself the throne. |
Stay the persecution of Those Who Live in Death. |
By becoming our Elden Lord. |
"Talk in secret" (final) |
This is goodbye, my dear. |
But I am satisfied. |
I choose to lie with Godwyn of my own will. Not the remains of one chosen for me. |
And I will bear a child. |
Who will inherit your warmth, too. |
What greater blessing could there be, but to be born a Deathbed Companion? |
If attacked |
Godwyn... |
Is that you, dear? |
Death |
Will your kind never stop? |
Ravaging...the weak? |

"Refuse" (first time) |
If talked to after replying "Refuse" |
"Let her hold you" (first time) |
Asking to be held with a Baldachin's Blessing in inventory |
"Let her hold you" |
After being held |
"Talk in secret" |
"About Black Knifeprints" |

Giving the Black Knifeprint Clue |
After giving Rogier the Black Knifeprint |
Giving the Weathered Dagger |
If talked to again |
After giving the Weathered Dagger to D, Hunter of the Dead |
"Holy Mark(s)" "Hallowbrand" seems to be a literal translation of the kanji in an attempt to make the connotations of a holy wound more clear. For context, stigma / stigmata refers to the wounds of Jesus due to the crucifixion. |
After defeating Fia's Champions |
"That's right" |
If talked to again after replying "That's right" |
"No, I wish to be held" |
"Talk in secret" (before obtaining the Cursemark of Death) |
"Talk in secret" again |
Giving Fia the Cursemark of Death |
...! |
"Talk in secret" (after giving the Cursemark of Death) |
"Talk in secret" again |
"Talk in secret" (final) |
If attacked |
Death |
