The Eternal Cities are landmarks in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
The Eternal Cities of the Lands Between are buried deep underground. The city of Nokstella rests along the Ainsel River Main, while Nokron is perched on a plateau overlooking the Siofra River. These cities are inhabited by the Nox and their Silver Tears, or patrolled by scouting Fallen Hawks. An uninhabited, third nameless Eternal City lies in ruins below the Prince of Death's Throne in the Deeproot Depths.
List of Eternal Cities[]
Background[]

The chair-crypt of Nokstella was guarded by a Dragonkin Soldier
The three Eternal Cities once existed above ground. They were built by the Nox, who were devoted to the starry night sky. They erected massive stone Chair-Crypts to seat giant maidens. They used weapons forged from the liquid metal of Silver Tears,[1] which could mimic other forms. They used these Mimic Tears in an attempt to create their own Lord.[2]
Long ago, they conspired against the Greater Will. They donned Nox Mirrorhelms to repel its light and used the Fingerslayer Blade to inflict a grievous wound upon a vassal of the Greater Will. As punishment for their blasphemy, each city fell to ruin and was buried deep underground. The Black Moon which once hung over their night sky had shattered into Memory Stones,[3] and Astel, Naturalborn of the Void was unleashed upon their cities.[4][5] Although the nameless Eternal City was completely leveled,[6] the others were left mostly intact. Although the efforts of the Nox all ended in failure, they continued to believe a Lord of Night would one day come to usher in an Age of the Stars.[7]
Inhabitants[]
- The Eternal Cities were home to the Nox clergy, which included Nox Monks,[7] Nox Swordstresses,[8] and Night Maidens.[9][10]
- Silver Tears are found throughout Nokron and Nokstella.
- The Fallen Hawks now wander Nokron and the Siofra Aqueduct.
- The Dragonkin Soldiers, who wielded ice lightning, were born in the Eternal Cities after they were sent underground.[11]
- The Nox of the nameless Eternal City crafted Valiant Gargoyles with Corpse Wax.
- War Counselor Iji wears a Mirrorhelm, the description of which implicates his involvement in the plot to use the Fingerslayer Blade.[12]
- The nameless Eternal City is populated by Basilisks, Mausoleum Knights, and Mausoleum Soldiers.
Notes[]
- Many of the buildings constructed by the Nox, such as the Siofra Aqueduct, appear inverted, hanging like stalactites from the cavern ceiling. It is unclear whether these were built after their banishment.
- The Carian Study Hall was built with a similar design.
- Eternal City ruins are strewn about the Ainsel River Main near Nokstella. This area is red with scarlet rot and prowled by a Baleful Shadow during Ranni the Witch's questline. An aqueduct drains water from the Ainsel into the stagnant lake.
- Sellia, Town of Sorcery was founded in Caelid. Many notable glintstone sorcerers came from Sellia, including Primeval Sorcerer Lusat, who went on to found the Olivinus conspectus at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The Sellians were known assassins who utilized night sorceries to hunt their peers.[13] The secret chair-crypt at this location is vacant.
- The Eternal Cities were likely buried after the ancient dynasty and Rauh culture ended, as they are found alongside both underground and ancient ruins.[14]
Trivia[]
- The nameless Eternal City is the only one without a chair-crypt.
