Elder Lions are enemies in Elden Ring. They do not respawn after being defeated.
Background[]
Elder Lions are powerful beasts found across the Lands Between. The lions have horns partially obscured by their manes, which are vestiges of the primordial Crucible.[1]
Following the Shattering, the Elder Lions can be found among the forces of various military groups including those of Leyndell, Redmane Castle, Stormveil, and Castle Sol.
Characteristics[]
A grey lion with horns jutting out from under its white mane. A large blade has been chained to its front right leg, affixed with nails driven into its flesh, which it deftly uses in combat to defeat foes.
The Elder Lions have five claws, a celebrated symbol among the Beastmen of Farum Azula, who consider it a sign of the intelligence once bestowed on their kind.[2]
The Elder Lions that inhabit Castle Sol possess the unique ability to expel a cold mist from their mouths.

Trivia[]
- Elder Lions are internally named "OldLionOfArena", suggesting that they may have been involved in the gladiatorial combat present there.
- There are disabled spawn markers for lions at the Colosseums.
- An elder lion would have fought a Grave Warden Duelist at the Royal Colosseum
- Serosh, the Lord of Beasts, was also a lion.
- The Elder Lions may bear a relationship to the Divine Beasts worshipped by the Hornsent, as the Divine Beast Warriors and the Sculpted Keepers who would use divine invocation mimicked the appearance of horned lions using masks and lion pelts.[3][4][5] The ritual of the lion dance in particular was revered for its divinity, fury, and light-footed beauty.[6]
- The Lion's Claw and Savage Lion's Claw techniques used by General Radahn and the Redmanes visibly emulates the movement of the somersault strike used by the Elder Lions.
