Elden Beast is the final boss of Elden Ring. It is encountered inside the Erdtree in Leyndell, Ashen Capital.

Overview[]

Long ago, the Greater Will sent a golden star bearing a beast into the Lands Between, which would later became the Elden Ring.[1] It was the vassal beast of the Greater Will and the living incarnation of the concept of Order.[2] Marika, a Numen Empyrean, would became a goddess and the vessel of the Elden Ring[3] and would establish the Golden Order and rule over the Lands Between as the one true god.[4] However, Marika would eventually shatter the Elden Ring, leading to her imprisonment inside the Erdtree.[5]

After untold hardships, a Tarnished champion fights their way into the Erdtree where they find the shackled Marika, and face Radagon, Marika's male "other self"[6] and the reigning Elden Lord, the two of them sharing the same body. After his defeat, the Elden Beast emerges from Radagon, transforming Radagon's defeated body into a large sword[7], and faces the Tarnished.

The Tarnished manages to triumph, and with the Elden Beast defeated, they were free to usher in a new age of their choosing.

Boss Fight[]

Elden Beast is the second half of the final boss fight, with Radagon of the Golden Order as the first half. Unlike the former fight, it is possible to summon Torrent for this fight.

Moveset[]

Moveset List
Golden Flames Phase ~
Sweeps its head around, spewing golden flames. Lifts its head up and covers the area in front of it in flames.
Supernova Phase ~
Spins around and produces a field of light which pulls the player towards it and then explodes. The Elden Beast then reappears elsewhere.
Nebula Phase ~
Sweeps its hand in front of it, creating a field of stars which explode after a short delay. The field of stars may take the form of a wave that travels towards the player, or as a straight line pointing away from the boss.
Sword Slash Phase ~
Swims around the arena and dashes towards the player, performing a sweep with its sword. Follows up with another sweep in the other direction.
Wave of Gold Phase ~
Imbues its sword with golden flames and swings it in front of him, unleashing a wave of gold that moves along the ground in a cone shape.
Golden Slashes Phase ~
Imbues its sword with gold and unleashes three to four golden waves, one after the other, towards the player.
Swing-Smash Combo Phase ~
Slashes twice and then smashes its sword into the ground.
Thrust Phase ~
Thrusts with its sword.
Golden Ring Phase ~
Glows gold and flies into the air. A golden ring will appear on the floor and close in on the player, exploding when it reaches its smallest point. Can be avoided by running towards and jumping over the edge of the ring. In phase 2, it generates three concentric rings which all converge upon the player.
Spear Shower Phase ~
Sends a large number of golden spears into the air, which gather together and begin to rain down on the player's location, chasing after them.
Flying Spear Shower Phase ~
Dives out of the water and flies upwards, firing golden spears from its wings which home in on the player.
Elden Stars Phase ~
Creates a golden orb which follows the player while emitting smaller orbs. Continues to follow the player until exploding. The boss may use Wave of Gold or Golden Slashes while this attack is ongoing.
Ground Stab Phase ~
Imbues its sword with gold and stabs it into the ground, triggering a large dome-shaped explosion.

The Elden Beast uses a combination of physical sword attacks and golden Holy attacks. It will regularly swim away from the player, or disappear underwater before emerging, meaning that the fight often requires one to chase after the Elden Beast.

When its health reaches around 80% it will fly up into the air and create a golden ring which closes in on the player before exploding. This can be avoided by jumping over the ring as it closes in. It will also begin to use additional attacks, such as Elden Stars or Spear Showers.

At around 30% health, it will perform the Golden Ring attack again, but this time it will generate three rings that each close in on the player.

Strategy[]

Its normal sword attacks are fairly easy to dodge, with perhaps the repeating stabs being an exception.

The Golden Rings can be jumped over to preserve your momentum and get out of them quicker, while the Spear Showers can be avoid by running while zig-zagging.

Elden Stars, if it cannot be interrupted by a stagger, is quite dangerous due to the consistent damage over time it can inflict and because it will gain speed to chase if allowed to travel with minimal turning. A way to fairly easily dodge it is to circle the Elden Beast counter-clockwise (that is, heading around it to your right before circling left to run out the duration.

Environment[]

The arena is a large, flat body of shallow water. Although it appears endless, the arena does have invisible walls surrounding it.

Notes[]

  • It is heavily implied that the Elden Beast was the being who imprisoned Marika inside the Erdtree based on one of its attacks where it attempts to grab the player and lift them up in the air to crucify and then pierce them with a barrage of golden spears, similar to how Marika was seen in the cutscene before the final boss battle.

Trivia[]

  • The Elden Beast is internally referenced as the "NebulaDragon".
  • It resembles the dragon associated with the alchemical Rebis, paralleling Marika and Radagon. The Rebis represents a single entity split into male and female halves, later reunited as a transcendent being empowered by a dragon.
  • A patch released just prior to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC made it possible to summon Torrent when fighting the Elden Beast.
