The drake knights are an unseen faction in Elden Ring.

Background[]

The drake knights were a sect of dragon hunters formed after Bayle the Dread betrayed Dragonlord Placidusax.[1][2] These mute warriors were born to enact vengeance on behalf of the ancient dragons through the sacred art of Dragon Communion.[3] They idolized the dragons for their strength and marveled at their awe-inspiring beauty. After devouring their fill of Gravel Stone hearts,[4] the drake knights' humanity slipped away and they were transformed into Magma Wyrms.[5][6]

The drake knights wore chainmail paired with armor forged from black iron.[7] Their fine tunics were emblazoned with the seal of Dragon Communion and bound tightly by a rugged belt with a decorative clasp and chain. Fiery smith script was engraved into the platemail, and draconic horns appeared to have erupted or sprouted from various joints. A badge inlaid with red gems was pinned to a red scarf draped around their necks.

Successful drake knights decorated their armor with trophies from prior hunts. Some wore a crimson mane of plucked feathers clasped to the breast in a way that resembled a mantle of thorns or quills. Sections of leathery drake wings were stitched together into a taloned cape.[8] Others wore tanned hides cut from their scaly foes.

Trivia[]

  • The dragon hearts dropped by magma wyrms can be used in Dragon Communion. The drake knights became the very thing they set out to destroy.
