Dragon Communion Seal is a sacred seal in Elden Ring.

Description[]

Formless drakeblood seal with a dragon communion crest. Enhances Dragon Communion incantations.

The sacrificial devouring of the heart gives power. Indeed, Dragon Communion is too primal in nature for the term "incantation" to be appropriate. This seal scales incantations with one's arcane attribute.

Acquisition[]

Dropped by a spectral Banished Knight located in the Fringefolk Hero's Grave in Limgrave. To find it, start at the Stranded Graveyard Site of Grace and head down the first two ramps in the Grave, then head right in the split to go up another two ramps. The Knight is inside a small room at the end of the ramp and is quite tough for the early game. The Chariot in the dungeon can be used to help kill it, though that comes at considerable risk to the player as well.

Notes[]

  • This Sacred Seal is best used for split Arcane/Faith builds, with an even split being slightly more favorable over one more biased towards Arcane. It can also be used for a pure Arcane build but that alternative is slightly weaker, by about 7-8%.
    • For comparison: a 45/45 Arc/Fth split gives 336 Scaling at +10, a 60/30 Arc/Fth split gives 333 Scaling at +10, and a 80/10 Arc/Fth split gives 310 Scaling at +10.
  • Holding a Dragon Communion Seal (DCS) in one of your active hands will boost the damage of directly damaging Dragon Communion Incantations by 15%.
    • Holding a DCS in each active hand (that is, two Seals that are each held in separate hands) will increase the damage boost to 32.25% (1.15*1.15=1.3225).
    • The damage boost is still granted if the other piece of equipment is two-handed.
    • This bonus stacks with the 20% damage boost granted when reactivating the Rock Heart.
  • Any incantation that inflicts Poison (except for Poison Armament), Madness, or non-bloodflame Blood Loss build-up and is cast using this Seal will have their Status Effect scale with the wielder's Arcane stat.
    • This status build-up bonus is equivalent to a fifth of the regular Weapon Scaling bonus from Stat Scaling, meaning that with a +10 DCS's scaling with Arcane being at 2.25 this caps at 45% (0.2*2.25=0.45).
    • Of the Blood Loss-inflicting incantations only Swarm of Flies inflicts any direct Blood Loss-build up (70 build-up out of its total 150 build-up) as direct status build-up instead of as part of a non-scaling bloodflame effect.
    • It would theoretically also scale the amount of Sleep build-up of any incantation that inflicts such a Status Effect. However, no incantation that inflicts that status effect exists.
    • Curiously Scarlet Rot build-up doesn't scale with Arcane, even though the spell type can inflict that status effect.
  • The weight being 0 means and the existence of Physical Dragon Communion Incantations such as Dragonmaw and Rotten Breath means this Seal works well with the Blue Dancer Charm weight-based increase to Physical damage.
    • This synergy is further enhanced by the existence of the Rock Heart, essentially a 0 weight armor set that can increase the damage of Dragon Communion Incantations even further.
  • This Seal is very unsuitable for casting Weapon Buff or direct healing spells as those depend entirely on the Faith portion of the used Seal's scaling, and this Seal only have about a third of the Faith scaling that pure Faith scaling Seals such as the Finger Seal and Erdtree Seal have.

Trivia[]

  • Patch 1.04 decreased the scaling of status effect build-up from spells and incantations of Albinauric Staff and Dragon Communion Seal.
    • Previously both of these casting implements full Arcane-scaling would apply to the Status Effects build-up of spells cast with them. For a +10 Dragon Communion Seal, this meant that almost the full S (2.25) would be applied thus resulting in roughly 3 times the Status Effect build-up on builds with high Arcane which would often result in instant or near instant application of Madness with spells such as Frenzied Burst.
