Long ago, Florissax assumed human form to share Dragon Communion with the world.- Ancient Dragon Florissax

The Dragon Communion Priestess, also known as Ancient Dragon Florissax, is an NPC character in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Overview[]

The Dragon Communion Priestess is an ancient dragon and a loyal vassal to her master, Dragonlord Placidusax. She wields a dragonstone gavel resembling an ancient flower, capable of calling the ancient dragons' red lightning.[2][3]

Background[]

The Dragon Communion Priestess was once one of the immortal ancient dragons herself long ago.[4] Florissax harbored no love but that which she felt for her lord, dedicating her eternal existence to his service.[5] This unshakable loyalty was tested when Bayle the Dread, the progenitor of all Drakes, assailed Dragonlord Placidusax and dealt him a grievous wound.[6] Florissax relinquished her timeless Gravel Stone scales to aid in Bayle's destruction, assuming a feebler form.[7] In her humanoid flesh, she would sacrifice her sleep for her lord as part of her servitude.[8] In return, Placidusax would give Florissax his favor but would not hesitate to abandon her if she broke her pledge.[9]

Bayle's treachery revealed the inherent weakness of the dragons’ eternal nature—their inability to match the ferocity and drive of a mortal spirit—and forced the dragons to retreat into their stoic passivity while Bayle fled to the Realm of Shadow.[10][11][12] Enraged by Bayle's transgression and betrayal, several Ancient Dragons, Florissax amongst them, assumed the form of humanoid priestesses and spread the Dragonlord's Dragon Communion for the sole purpose of hunting down and slaying the Drakes so as to punish them for their ancestor's sin.[4][13]

Though the influence of the priestesses had waned over time, and the purpose of Dragon Communion was now long-forgotten, Florissax continued to recruit mortals to hunt Bayle to cultivate that which the ancient dragons lacked to ensure his downfall.[14] During that time, she would come to know the broken Drake Warrior Igon for his endless hunger and fiery ambition.[1]

Dialogue[]

English Dialogue
Talk (introduction)
Warrior true.
Picture yourself. Feasting upon a dragon's essence.
On the throbbing heart of the oldest, vilest dragon of them all.
It would be the purest form of Communion.
The fullest sating of your hunger,
and your consummation, as a dragon whole.
"Do not partake"
Perhaps you have yet to feel true want.
I am patient.
There will come a day when hunger knocks.
"Devour draconic essence"
Yes, as it should be.
Now, seek the jagged peak.
There you will find Bayle, the oldest, and vilest, of all dragons.
Landbound warrior. Follow your desire, and slay the foul beast.
Devour its throbbing heart.
I will grant you the strength required.
In the name of my Lord, Placidusax.
Talk again
Warrior true. Do you feel the hunger?
Then why not feast upon a dragon's essence.
On the throbbing heart of the oldest, vilest dragon of them all.
"Ask for power"
Very well.
If you hunger for Dragon Communion,
and seek to slay Bayle, the vilest of dragons,
then I shall grant you strength time and again.
In the name of my Lord, Placidusax.
Talk (after defeating Jagged Peak Drakes and speaking with Igon)
Warrior true. What is it that you need?
"Ask about Bayle"
In a time long past, Bayle turned upon the Dragonlord.
The foul traitor assailed our master and inflicted a grievous wound, only to make a hasty retreat.
...Becoming a sworn enemy of the brood.
Since that day, Bayle and his bloodline—the drakes—have served as sacrifices for Dragon Communion.
Landbound warrior. My Lord, Placidusax, has shown your kind what must be done.
Seek communion. Sate your boundless appetite.
Feel the euphoria of a dragon's essence taking root in your meagre frame.
"Ask about Igon"
I remember that name well.
The broken drake warrior.
Driven by bottomless hunger and fiery ambition.
Precisely what the Dragonlord envisaged.
For men who partake in Dragon Communion.
The mad hunger and fierceness of spirit that only flows from those young and short of sight.
He rather reminds me of Bayle, in fact.
Such thoughts are unfathomable to ones as old as we.
Overheard during the night
My dear Lord, Placidusax.
Tonight, like every night, my solace is yours.
May it grant you sleep, in your place beyond time.
"Use Thiollier's concoction" (and wait 48 hours)
I have broken my pledge.
I succumbed to the deep slumber...
...That was meant for my Lord.
'Twas a craven act! Of a foul and lowly beast!
Forgive me, good warrior.
My Lord will no longer look upon me.
I have fallen from grace. An old dragon no longer.
Go on, leave me be.
Talk (after Bayle the Dread is defeated, if given Thiollier's Concoction)
Ahh, finally, our wish is granted.
Our dream, long yearned for, has come to pass.
My Lord was blessed with great insight.
He saw in the insatiable hunger and fierce spirit of man,
the very things that would fell Bayle, our wretched nemesis.
Warrior, you soar with the strength of dragons.
Talk again (after Bayle the Dread is defeated, if given Thiollier's Concoction)
Whereas I am fallen. Leave me be.
Talk again (after Bayle the Dread is defeated, if given Thiollier's Concoction)
Good warrior, leave me be.
I can call myself an old dragon no longer.
"Confess to putting her to sleep"
Is that the truth?
Never, in all my years...
How could you inflict such cruelty?
No, that is not for me to judge.
Whatever your hand in it, it was I who succumbed to the sweetness of slumber.
The fault lies with me.
I may be fallen, but I need not surrender my honour.
On second thought,
I believe you do owe me something for the transgression.
On a mere whim, you've stripped me of my one and only Lord.
As such, I require another—you.
One day, may you become a dragon whole, a Lord of your own making.
Lead me, and I will follow.
My good Lord.
"Take her with you"
My good Lord.
Let me join you on your journey.
When summoned as Ancient Dragon Florissax
For my noble Lord!
In the name of my brave Lord!
