Dragon is an enemy and category of boss in Elden Ring.

Overview[]

Paltry, mortal descendants of the Ancient Dragons[1] who once ruled the Lands Between. They did not inherit their ancestors' command over lightning, and are instead vulnerable to it.[2] They typically possess large wings in the place of front limbs. They have lost the stone scales possessed by their ancient kin, which can now be used to cause them mortal harm.[3]

Dragons are the offspring of Greyoll, a vast Dragon who dwarfed all who stood before her.[4] Greyoll, along with some of her children, escaped the Scarlet Rot by settling on the plateau in the north of Caelid, which became known as Greyoll's Dragonbarrow.[5] However, Greyoll appears to have succumbed to the rot, and can no longer take flight.

Dragons became the prey of hunters. Their hearts in particular were sought after by those who practiced Dragon Communion, who gained overwhelming power by consuming them.[6] Those who partook in Dragon Communion would eventually become Magma Wyrms, cursed to crawl the earth upon their bellies.[7]

Variant Description[]

Dragons who settled in northern Caelid with their mother, Greyoll. They surround the colossal Elder Dragon, who is now too decrepit to fight.

There are six red-eyed Flying Dragons surrounding Greyoll. Greyoll will lose 20% of her health with each Dragon killed, meaning that killing five will cause Greyoll to die.

Bosses[]

Background[]

A Flying Dragon encountered in Agheel Lake in southern Limgrave, north-west of the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. It appears by flying down from above, torching a congregation of Wandering Nobles with dragonfire.

Nobles in the ruins around the lake, chanting Agheel's name, praying that it will burn them to ash.[8]

Bloody Finger Hunter Yura is available as a summon for this fight, after speaking to him under the ruin south of the lake.

Defeating Flying Dragon Agheel will unlock Agheel's Flame, which can be obtained at the altar in the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid for two Dragon Hearts.

Background[]

A devourer of sorcerers, whose body gradually became corrupted by the glintstones of those he ate.[9] Smarag is encountered near an island west of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and north of the Temple Quarter, guarding a corpse that holds the Academy Glintstone Key. Note that it is not necessary to kill this dragon to get the Academy Glintstone Key; it can be retrieved by either sneaking behind it or rushing beyond it before it's fully awakened to get at the corpse.

Smarag is able to fire Glintstone Cometshards from his mouth, and can also unleash magic breath, akin to the fire breath of other Dragons.

Defeating Glintstone Dragon Smarag will unlock Smarag's Glintstone Breath, which can be obtained at the altar in the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid for two Dragon Hearts.

Background[]

A devourer of sorcerers, whose body became corrupted by glintstone. Adula was once bested by Ranni the Witch, and subsequently swore a knightly oath to her Dark Moon.[10]

Adula is first encountered outside Ranni's Rise in the Three Sisters, north of Caria Manor. After a brief fight it disappears, only to reappear at the Moonlight Altar, outside the Cathedral of Manus Celes.

Adula can use magic breath, much like Smarag, however it can also utilise Adula's Moonblade, conjuring a magic blade in its maw mid-flight and unleashing a wave that inflicts Frostbite.

Background[]

A massive but stationary dragon encountered in Greyoll's Dragonbarrow, just south of Fort Faroth. She is immobile, either having grown too weak to move or as a result of having fused with the surrounding rocks, but can still let loose fearsome roars to weaken her enemies.

Greyoll is known as the mother of the lesser dragon.[11]

Defeating any the six lesser dragons surrounding her will cause large amounts of damage to her, and killing them all will kill her.

Defeating Elder Dragon Greyoll will unlock Greyoll's Roar, which can be obtained at the altar in the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid for three Dragon Hearts.

Strategy[]

While the intended method of defeating her is by killing the surrounding lesser dragons, killing Greyoll herself directly through another method, such as Blood Loss, will also kill these smaller dragons. This method will also effectively give another 20,000 runes, making this an excellent place to use a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot for more runes early on.

Trivia[]

  • This boss was originally intended to be fought more directly. However, attempting to view this moveset results in heavy lag and slowdown which is presumably why it wasn't implemented.

Background[]

A Dragon plagued by Scarlet Rot, encountered north-west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. Also known as the Dragon Communion Revenger, Ekzykes did not forget his hatred even as he succumbed to the rot.[12]

Instead of flames, Ekzykes breathes toxic clouds that inflict Scarlet Rot, covering a large area and taking a few seconds to dissipate. Its stomps also produce a small cloud of Scarlet Rot.

Defeating Decaying Ekzykes will unlock Ekzykes's Decay, which can be obtained at the altar in the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid for two Dragon Hearts.
