Castellan Jerren is an NPC in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
Jerren is the elderly castellan of Redmane Castle. In the past, Jerren was a nomadic warrior who became a guest of the Carian Royal Family.[1] There, he became acquainted with General Radahn, the son of Radagon and Rennala, the Carian queen, who would later challenge the stars and arrest their movements, halting fate.[2] He was considered an eccentric by Iji, the blacksmith and war counselor of the Carians.[3] During this time, Jerren made a promise to kill Sellen, a sorceress who had long been a hindrance to the Carians.[4]
After spending time as a guest of the Carians, Jerren served as a guest commander under General Radahn, and the two swore an oath of honourable death to one another.[5] During the Shattering, Radahn fought Malenia, Blade of Miquella in the Battle of Aeonia, and in the aftermath was driven mad by Malenia's rot, cursed to wander the battlefield, devouring the corpses of friends and foes alike.[6] Jerren convened the Radahn Festival to honour his lord[7], attracting champions from across the Lands Between by promising a battle against the General and a chance to claim his Great Rune.[8]
Among the champions who converge upon Redmane Castle to participate in the festival is a Tarnished who succeeds in defeating Radahn, giving him an honourable death. With Radahn dead, the stars are once again set into motion, and Sellen is dispossessed of her immortality.[4] Finally able to uphold his old promise, Jerren travels to Witchbane Ruins on the Weeping Peninsula, where Sellen is bound by the Academy's shackles.[9] When he arrives, he finds her as a husk, her soul having seemingly already fled.[10] Suspecting Sellen to still be alive somewhere[11], Jerren continues his hunt, eventually tracking her down to the Academy of Raya Lucaria. He vows to kill her and crush her Primal Glintstone[12], which facilitated her survival.[13] Should the Tarnished aid him in defeating Sellen, he will thank them before departing, promising to meet them again at the next tournament.[14]

Questline Progression[]
- (Optional) Redmane Castle (before Radahn Festival)
- Jerren can be encountered in Redmane Castle before initiating the Radahn Festival, sitting on a chair inside the church just beyond the plaza. Speaking to him here will unlock some additional dialogue with Iji.
- Redmane Castle (Radahn Festival)
- When the Radahn Festival commences, Jerren can be found on a podium overlooking the plaza. Speak to him and select "Ready as I'll ever be" to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene, wait for Jerren to finish speaking to receive the "Heartening Cry" Gesture. Next, go into the church behind Jerren and take the elevator down. Use the sending gate at the bottom of the elevator to fight Starscourge Radahn.
- Castellan Jerren's summon sign will appear during the fight with Starscourge Radahn, after he enters his second phase.
- Optional) Redmane Castle (after Radahn Festival)
- Jerren can be spoken to once more after the Radahn Festival, in the same location he was in before the festival. After exhausting his dialogue he will disappear.
- Witchbane Ruins
- After following Sellen's questline up until she gives you Sellen's Primal Glintstone, reload and return to Witchbane Ruins to find Jerren. Exhaust his dialogue to progress to the next step.
- Academy of Raya Lucaria
- After transplanting Sellen's Primal Glintstone into the puppet in the cellar beneath Three Sisters, there will be two summon signs outside the door to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library. To progress Jerren's questline, interact with the red summon sign. You will be summoned to assist Jerren in defeating Sellen. Defeat Sellen to receive the Witch's Glintstone Crown and Sellen's Bell Bearing. After the fight, speak to Jerren, who will be just outside the room. Exhaust his dialogue to receive an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

- Jerren's mask and hood bear a resemblance to Slave Knight Gael, an NPC and boss in Dark Souls III, who shares his name with Fort Gael in Caelid. In this area there is a Stranded Soul NPC who makes reference to Jerren.
