Briars of Punishment is a sorcery spell in Elden Ring. It is one of the thorn sorceries.
Description[]
An aberrant sorcery discovered by exiled criminals. Theirs are the sorceries most reviled by the academy.
Wounds the caster with thorns of punishment, sending a trail of bloodthorns running over the ground to impale enemies from below. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly.
The guilty, their eyes gouged by thorns, lived in eternal darkness. There, they discovered the blood star.

Loot: Mountaintops of the Giants
- Located by a dead tree on the western cliffs of the southern end of the giant stone bridge surrounded by Guilty enemies.
Effects[]
The caster sacrifices their own blood to summon crawling vines of bloodthorn that pursue a single target. This spell deals Magic damage with an Attack Power equal to 212% of Sorcery Scaling, inflicting 72 Blood Loss and 7 Stance damage.

Boosting[]
- Alberich's Bracers, Alberich's Robe, Alberich's Pointed Hat, and Alberich's Pointed Hat (Altered) each boost the effectiveness by 6%, up to a maximum of 18%.
- Staff of the Guilty boosts the Attack Power by 20%.
- Magic Scorpion Charm increases Magic Attack Power by 12% (8% in PvP).
- Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear increases Magic Attack Power by 20% (15% in PvP) for 3 minutes.
- Albinauric Staff and Maternal Staff provide a scaling bonus to Blood Loss buildup based on the caster's Arcane attribute.
- Azur's Glintstone Staff reduces the casting time of spells.
- Lord of Blood's Exultation boosts attack power by 20% (12% in PvP) for 20 seconds when Blood Loss occurs nearby.
Strategies[]
- Briars of Punishment fires fewer projectiles than Impenetrable Thorns but is more reliable at long range against single targets.
Trivia[]
- Requires Faith rather than Intelligence.
- Patch 1.07 reduced the FP cost from 13 to 9, increased the on-hit Blood Loss from 60 to 72, and reduced the casting time.
