Black Flame Ritual is an incantation spell in Elden Ring. It is one of the Godslayer Incantations.
Description[]
Superior black flame incantation of the Godskin Apostles.
Summons a circle of black flame pillars around the caster. Charging increases the size of the circle.
The Gloam-Eyed Queen led the apostles. It is said that she was an Empyrean chosen by the Fingers.
Acquisition[]
Guaranteed Drop: Mountaintops of the Giants
- Black Flame Ritual is received upon defeating the Spiritcaller Snail boss in Spiritcaller Cave on the Mountaintops of the Giants. This Snail summons the spirits of a Godskin Apostle and a Godskin Noble.
Effect[]
Summon a circle of Blackflame around the caster for about 4 seconds, hitting with Fire Attack Power equal to 106% of Incantation Scaling and inflicting an effect that deals damage equal to 2% of target's maximum HP + 20, over the course of 2 seconds, if an enemy touches them.
Charging the spell increases the Attack Power to 109% of Incantation Scaling and creates the circle a bit further away from the caster.
Notes[]
- Costs 39 points of Stamina to cast. Charging the spell increases the cost to 51 points.
- Deals 5 Stance damage per hit. Charging the spell increases the Stance damage to 6.5 per hit.
- Attack Power is boosted by 15% by the Godfrey Icon if charged.
- Since charging the spell already increases Attack Power by 3%, wearing this talisman increases the Attack Power by a total of 18%.
- Attack Power is boosted by 15% per Godslayer's Seal held in an active hand (2 max).
- The ring can hit an enemy up to 4 times, effectively granting it Attack Power equal to 424% of Incantation Scaling (436% if charged), not accounting for flat defence, and dealing additional damage equal to 5% of target's maximum HP + 20 (since hitting with a new Blackflame effect will just reset the duration of the debuff).
- This makes the incantation surprisingly usable for attacking, at least against large opponents such as Trolls, since enemies can be tricked into standing inside of the flames.
- An older instance of Black Flame Ritual isn't removed when a new is cast, though their damage won't stack as efficiently against opponents compared to when their casts are more separated.
- Significantly harder to use against other players, being primarily useful for forcing them to stay away from the caster or to obscure the caster's other attacks. Be wary of opponent's jumping over the flames or simply running through them, as well as the fact that the charged version's pillars being further out means it's possible to stand close to the caster without being damaged.
- All bosses in Shadow of the Erdtree are resistant to the percentage-based damage of Blackflame, only taking damage equal to 1% of target's maximum HP + 10 over 2 seconds. Messmer the Impaler, Bayle the Dread, and the Promised Consort are even more resistant to the effect, only taking damage equal to 0.7% of target's maximum HP + 7.
Trivia[]
- 1.06: Fixed a bug which caused the charged version of “Black Flame Ritual” to consume the same amount of stamina as the normal version
- 1.04: Reduced FP cost and increased damage.
- FP cost was decreased from 36 to 30.
- Patch 1.03.3 seems to have included an undocumented change which increased the FP cost of this incantation from 24 to 36.
