Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns is an incantation spell in Shadow of the Erdtree. It is one of the Erdtree incantations.
Description[]
Aspect of the Crucible that manifested in golden hippopotami.
Creates a bristling mass of thorn-like fur on the caster's back before scouring the area by rolling around on the ground. Charging increases the number of rolls and range of attack.
In an age long past, before this land was enshrouded in shadow, the vitality of the Crucible flourished. Remains of this can be seen in the ancient ruins.
Acquisition[]
Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns is acquired by defeating the Golden Hippopotamus boss found just inside the main gate of Shadow Keep on Scadu Altus.
Effect[]
Sprouts spines from the back and rolls sideways on the ground, throwing them around the user, dealing Pierce Attack Power equal to 45% of Incantation Scaling per hit, hitting up to 10 times (450% of Incantation Scaling in total).
The spell can be charged to spin twice, increasing the maximum number of hits to 15 and moving forward. These extra attacks deal Attack Power equal to 120% of Incantation Scaling per hit (600% of Incantation Scaling for the extra hits or 1000% of Incantation Scaling in total).
Notes[]
- Costs 29 points of Stamina to cast. Charging the spell increases the cost to 38 points of Stamina.
- Attack Power is boosted by wearing pieces of the Crucible Set (4% per piece, 17% for the whole set because 1.04^4 = 1.17).
- Attack Power is boosted by 15% by the Godfrey Icon if charged.
- Since charging the spell already increases Attack Power by 122%, wearing this talisman increases Attack Power by a total of 156%.
- The very low height of the user when casting this spell means that high-centered thrusting or horizontal attacks can easily miss them.
- The charged version's increased forward momentum makes it even better at evading attacks.
- Since this Incantation deals Pierce damage, it will occasionally deal a Counter Hit against an attacking foe, increasing the Attack Power of that specific hit by 30%.
- Note that this will most likely result in an overall 2-3% damage increase per Counter Hit since each is only a portion of the total damage.
- Since this isn't a weapon, it does NOT benefit from the Spear Talisman.
Trivia[]
- Patch 1.14 increased attack power and stamina attack power against guarding enemies. The close-range hitbox now follows the movement of the player.
- The attack power was increased from 40% of Incantation Scaling to 45% for the uncharged hits and most of the charged hits, while the increase was from 70% to 120% of Incantation Scaling for the stronger charged hits.
- Stamina attack power against guarding enemies was only increased for the charged hits, going from 50 to 85 against PvE enemies and from 62 to 106 against other players.
