Ancient Dragon Cult

The Ancient Dragon Cult, also simply known as the Dragon Cult, is a faction in Elden Ring.

Overview[]

The ancient dragon cult is devoted to the worship of the ancient dragons. The religion plays a deep, long-standing role in the history of the Beastmen of Farum Azula, while its practice amongst humans was established more recently. The cult was based in Leyndell, Royal Capital, and championed by Godwyn the Golden in collaboration with Ancient Dragon Lansseax and Dread Fortissax after the conclusion of the war between Leyndell and the Ancient Dragons. Its equipment and incantations heavily base themselves on the Ancient Dragons and emulate their ability to conjure lightning.

Background[]

After Lord Godfrey was banished from the Lands Between, the gold-worshipping capital of Leyndell was attacked by a legion of Ancient Dragons, led by the colossal Ancient Dragon Gransax. Gransax's assault would be the only time in the historical record that Leyndell's walls had fallen and marked the dawn of the war against the ancient dragons.^[1]

This brutal war ended with the death of Gransax and Godwyn's triumph over and immediate peacemaking with Dread Fortissax, with Godwyn arguing that the worshipping of the ancient dragons did not clash with belief in the Erdtree, as the very scales of the ancient dragons, and lightning itself, were both imbued with gold.^[2] The implementation of the faith in Leyndell would be supported largely by Lansseax, who would assume the form of a humanoid priestess and teach the blessings of the Ancient Dragons to Leyndell's inhabitants, with their lightning becoming a significant addition to the arsenal of its military.
